A funny thing about that poll. It's true, it's horrible for Dems. Biden is underwater and the Dems are even losing on the generic ballot question.

    But why?

According to the same poll, people support the Infrastructure bill by a 62-34 margin. People support the $3.5T reconciliation package by a 57-40 margin!! 73% say the govt needs to do more or a "lot more" to help people. Very same poll that shows Biden with only 38% support.

So why are his numbers so bad?

Well, they don't ask about any of these things but I think the border situation, inflation, Afghanistan, and covid flaring up again over the summer, most of which raised competency questions, are killing the Dems way more than the spending bills are. JMO but this poll is reasonable evidence to me.

"If it takes a trillion to build roads and bridges and expand broadband, so be it, say a majority of Americans. And, though fewer in number, more than half of Americans green light the 'human side' of the two bills, aimed at families, seniors, and the overall welfare of the population," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

Anyone else here think that DSL possesses a disturbing level of schadenfreude over people being unhappy that they are going to live in a society plagued by race riots, high violent crime, high unemployment, inflation, energy shortages, censorship, and a dead end culture? It's enough to make someone think that DSL is looking forward to a life plagued by race riots, high violent crime, high unemployment, inflation, energy shortages, censorship, and a dead end culture.

I'd prefer to live in a society where we can do stuff like create a space program that puts a man on the moon while building the interstate highway system, all with government spending at a much smaller portion of the GDP than it is now. Yeah, we actually did that. As recently as 22 years ago we had full employment, robust growth, low inflation, declining violent crime, and major metropolitan areas not getting set on fire on a monthly basis.

But at least in the future we won't be "racist" amirite? So we've got that going for us.

      • You forgot the promise of equity. Mediocrity for everyone by government mandate. I hope my monthly grain ration is tasty!

Ah well I'm an asshole I guess.

You have always romanticized the past and demonized the present and future in the 20 years I've posted in these forums. That's why you're a conservative.

What was the upper bracket tax rate those years we built the interstate system and went to the moon? Private company unionization peaked during that time as well. The New Deal was alive and thriving. A Republican president, a Republican, was enforcing price controls. There was a fuckton of socialism going on.

          • What's wrong with demonizing the present? Some changes are bad. Actually lots of changes are bad. Many of them, objectively so. We already have speech control by unregulated monopolies, mental health metrics at all time lows with out-of-wedlock births at or near all time highs, regular race riots, violent crime back at decades high levels, and plenty of shortages to go along with near double digit inflation if you look at the past eight months or so. And the rest of the future is already happening or happened in California (the model of governance for the Democrat party) or in any number of the third world countries whose population is now taking over the West.

Goddamn Catholics, Jews, and heathen immigrants are all part of the problem, right?
No, Ghengis, not right. What is right is that man's nature is evil ("depraved" in theological talk). If you believe that man is evil, you want to set up systems that curb his inherent ability to hurt society ( like a free market and a disbursed, federal system of government where no one has a lot of power). You want to atomize everything. You want individual liberty, too

If you believe man is good, the problem becomes finding the good man in which to vest vast power. The Catholics believe man is good, and the Pope talks to God, so they have solved that problem. What the woksters want is a dictatorship by a select few. Certainly, we can agree that the Dems want to centralize power in DC.

The old Know-Nothing hatred of Catholics and Jews was about a second wave of immigration from southern and eastern Europe that threatened the jobs of the working class. It was not about their view of human nature.

Crimes rates pre-covid were the lowest since the early 1960's. Teenage pregnancies have been on the decline since 1991. The abortion rate has actually been on the decline since 1980. Up until covid life expectancy was continuously growing. We just produced a vaccine for malaria, one of the world's most feared diseases.

Maybe people have mental health problems when they absorb a steady diet of media encouraging you to be angry and outraged day in and day out. And that goes for both left AND right.

Covid didn't increase crime rates. Democrat governance did. Teenage pregnancies are not the same thing as out of wedlock pregnancies, which have continued to skyrocket over our lifetimes and are currently at or near their peak.

Negative media's contribution to mental health issues isn't new. You know what is new? "Defund the Police". People now having to interact with each other through cloth facemasks. Shortages in the grocery store. People not being allowed into the hospital to see their sick and/or dying relatives. The destruction of scientific truths and the adoption of Orwellian language like "birthing persons" in place of "Mothers". The normalization of mental sicknesses like "preferred pronouns", and the careless tossing of our way of life onto the trash heap without a second's thought of the consequences.

It's obvious that none of this means anything to you. You clearly have no skin in the game and no stake in the future. You are free to laugh while the world burns and gloat about how you helped make it happen. For the rest of us -- those who would like to leave some legacy behind other than total societal collapse -- we don't have that luxury.

I care about the future. I just don't share your apocalyptic vision of the future. I don't share your doomsday vision of the present.

Crime rates aren't at record highs. Race wars aren't happening. I doubt you've ever been directly impacted by a tranny your entire life. Your capacity for self-pity is enedless.
