Stick to things you know something about. Pharmaceuticals and their mechanism of action are clearly not among them.

A Facebook post falsely suggests that a potential new Covid-19 treatment from Pfizer is essentially the same as ivermectin. In fact the two drugs are structurally very different.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          Is that right fuck face
Well no shit it's different. Motrin and Aspirin are different too, but both get rid of a headache

          • It appears that since you believe that Ivermectin and Pfizer's experimental antiviral drug are the same (they are not) and imply that big pharma will end up piggybacking profits by re-branding Ivermectin, you must get that sort of information from FB, right? I've got a tip for you ......

Instead of listening to doctors, many of these Americans have put their trust in Facebook memes, “research” posts in online group messages and YouTube pseudoscientists. A report in September 2020 from the Covid States Project found respondents who reported getting their news from Facebook or WhatsApp groups were roughly two to three times more likely to believe falsehoods about covid-19,............

You might want to stay away from FB.

            • Biden isn't going to achieve his end game of passing both the Infrastructure bill and the Build Back America Better Bill - too many entrenched interests.

What the Dems need to think about is a consumption tax - better known as a VAT. You want a welfare state that's not tax re-distributive? We've already moved in that direction, Trump reversed that trend in 2017 and Biden wants to undue all of that to finance the ridiculous $3.5T cost of the progressives demands to give everything away free with changes to the existing tax code.

Frankly, you can tax the wealthy more heavily but, as I understand it, most of the loop-holes that allow the wealthy to avoid taxes remain. Jousting with windmills. TBH, raising corporate taxes stunts growth.

Get the cost down by limiting programs within the bill to under $2T then consider a VAT to pay for it. The US government can afford that. America is the least taxed of wealthy countries on the face of the earth. Countries with big social welfare programs rely on the VAT to do that.

The US is the wealthiest nation on the earth because it is the lowest taxed nation. Innovators get to keep the fruits of their labors. Think of the term Value Added Tax. Tax policy should be all about "adding" value. Taxing added value will discourage the creation of added value.

Any talk of a VAT needs as a precursor the constitutional amendment to be sure the income tax could not be used in conjunction with the VAT. If that is done, a VAT is possible, but to put a VAT as an overlay onto the current progressive tax code, means adding a regressive tax.

Besides, Jeff, all of this costs nothing, zero, so why raise taxes? Does anyone here actually think that a $ 30 Trillion national debt is ever going to be paid with anything other than inflation. That is the essence of MMT. Inflation may be the most regressive of all taxes.

Holy shit, yes it is. Biden probably knows that she won’t be confirmed but if that’s throwing a bone to the far left, it shows exactly what those fuckers are all about.

                        • Two of the biggest money lies of the past 8 years.

                          1. "We're going to build a wall and Mexico will pay for it".

                          2. "We're going to spend 3.5 trillion dollars, and its going to be free with no cost to the taxpayer"

                          • Meanwhile, Dr Fauci says "its too early to know if we will be able to have family gatherings at Christmas".

Dr Fauci has never been consulted regarding our family gatherings, and he won't be consulted this year either.

He can do whatever he wants/doesn't want to do with his family. For now, we still have the liberty to do as we choose.

                            Butt out, Doc.

                              • OK, context. Fauci's statement is both fractious and dumb ...... what's new with that guy. TBF, the numbers are, in most parts of the world, right now, on COVID's side relative to it's past, present and likely future impact on the public's health. Don't care where you look - region, state, locality - a couple of things are becoming crystal clear:
                                • Reduce the number of naive hosts and the pandemic becomes a manageable epidemic by region.
                                • SARS2 can become manageable but not by thinking that it will go away on it's own or denying that it's a PH problem.
                                • After 2y, it is almost inconceivable that an unusual Corona Virus that tends to be a lot more deadly than the common cold hasn't been contained but that's the reality. There are reasons for this.
                                • Until it is, humans can't stop acting as if there is no threat and not take responsible steps to combat it.
I think Fauci knows this. He's just terrible with messaging along with the entire federal and state PH apparatus. His view - that I hopefully correctly bulleted above - is consistent with experts around the world that I'm reading or listening to.

The biggest thing I've learned traveling in Europe and visiting my daughter in Switzerland is that current COVID research is way ahead of how it's being seen (through the eyes of an untrained media) by most of the world. Scientist being who they are understand nothing is certain. There are always outlying findings. Being able to understand what that means, how to interpret it, requires both scientific knowledge and experience in this particular field of study. Those not involved, the amateurs, even those involved in positions to make PH policy, frequently don't understand what they are being told or read about SARS2 and COVID from experts in the related fields of study and research. Accordingly, bad policy results. Misinformation abounds. We are where we are, bad PH policy, even the good policy improperly messaged is water under the bridge. There's no starting over.

The key to beating this thing then is to sort out the good from the bad and there is indeed some good policy. Citizens often don't agree with it or dismiss it off hand as lies and fabrications for various political purposes. That breeds back-lash from those that accept the good stuff, properly messaged. The polarization widens. Positions become hardened. That's where we are.

I'm not hear to tell you what policy is good or bad. If you're paying attention to reliable COVID metrics - and there are some out there and they are getting better as data geeks make them better - the set of ways to beat SARS2 is pretty fucking obvious. When you examine countries or regions or localities that have sensibly adopted them, where you find success in controlling SARS2, lowering viral prevalence and reducing deaths and hospitalizations, the methods to do that are right in front of you. No secret, none at all. You have to be convinceable. Not enough are so, here in the US anyway, there's not an overwhelming movement to get on board. There is in Europe, an end game is in sight. Despite the usual howls of protest we can learn from the Europeans
