  • Calling a 90-second fight between has-beens wasn't the only thing Trump got up to yesterday. He also pre-recorded a message for the Moonie Cult that were holding a conference.

He's pricey but he'll probably do a Cameo for your grandkid if anyone's interested. Maybe even fly in for the birthday party if you're really willing to break the bank.

    • not the only thing he did yesterday

      • Those cops are obviously insurrectionists, and paid by the Moonies.

        • My post last week regarding legal barriers and outcomes to Biden's vaccine mandate lacked depth. This is a very well put together piece at Vox that deals with these.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • That picture showing Trump with the cops also brings up another interesting point.

Those cops don't seem very upset that Trump supposedly encouraged an 'insurrection' and that he incited people to target cops.

Trump is going to run for President again, so I guess the Dems are going to have to dig something else up to try and get him disqualified.

            • Anecdotal but this hospital in Portsmouth, Ohio says they're completely overrun with covid cases right now and have no ICUs available. Portsmouth-Ashland, KY-Huntington, WV make up what's traditionally one of the unhealthiest metro areas in America.

There's a big VA in Chillicothe about an hour north but I don't know if ordinary members of the public are allowed to admitted into those. If not patients from down there may start being shipped to the Columbus or Cincinnati areas.

No, what the Democrats have to do is rally behind someone not named Harris (pretty sure Biden won't run for re-election). Sorry uber left, a Sanders type won't cut it either. Trouble is, moderate Dems for the most part have no name recognition beyond their districts. Here's the list, how many do you recognize?

                Connor Lamb
                Joe Manchin
                Kyrsten Sinema
                Carolyn Bourdeaux
                Ed Case
                Jim Costa
                Jon Tester
                Mark Warner
                Henry Cuellar
                Jared Golden
                Vicente Gonzalez
                Josh Gottheimer
                Kurt Schrader
                Chris Murphy
                Gary Peters

Only Donald Trump knows whether he will mount a run for the White House in 2024. But it’s already clear what such a campaign would look like. It would be built on a lie that he was cheated out of office and would relentlessly politicize and monetize America’s ideological, social and racial divides.

                • I barely recognize Peters, but that's the problem that the Democrats need to fix, In fact, they can and should fix it, But they won't because they're even more idiotic than the Republicans are. For whatever reason they keep pandering to the far left and/or "token" candidates. They've neglected, and essentially abandoned, the middle road that provided their core support.

                  • What incentive do the Democrats have to exile the loony Left when they are constantly succeeding?

                    • Jon - I echo what Tom said. I recognized only a handful from your list and unfortunately, when most moderate Democrats' feet are placed to the fire, they run home to the so-called progressive side of their party for comfort and protection. I used to think of Joe as a moderate, but his actions have proven that idea totally wrong.

I think if the true moderates of both parties banded together, they could isolate the wackos of both, and lead the country to where it really needs to go. This "all or nothing" approach by both parties is getting us nowhere. Nobody should get everything they want.

And the example of an "all or nothing" approach by the GOP is...?

That was a useful list, Jon. IMO, Joe Manchin could win but he could never get the Dem nomination because the party establishment (the progs) don't like him. Let's remember that the entire party establishment for the Rs was against Trump in 2016, to no avail. Dems tend to vote in lockstep, Reps not so much. Well over 50% of Dem voters approve of Biden's handling of the Afghan pullout. And, over 80% of Dems are reliant on government largess. That is what socialism promises; equality of outcomes. Now the Dems are talking of a $ 4,500 subsidy for autos build using UAW labor.

Well, the biggie is that I don't think they'll ever get Roe v Wade overturned. I think no matter what, abortion is going to be available. I consider myself to be more of a moderate than radical right, and one reason why is that I feel that there may be a window where an abortion can be performed in cases of rape and incest. I'm talking "zygote" stage, not 7 months along. If a human life, or potential human life is about to be ended, there better be a doggone good reason other than inconvenience. I think a lot of folks on both sides could agree with that. I even found myself agreeing with Bill Clinton when he said "Abortion should be safe, legal and rare". A lot of his supporters didn't like the "rare" part of that. If abortion is going to be legal, then make the procedure as safe as possible, and it should only be done in extreme cases. It shouldn't be a form of routine birth control.

I also believe moderates could agree on government helping people with special needs, rather than eliminating all government assistance. I think both sides could agree on the US being a strong country militarily, but not the world's policeman.

                          I think that's a good start.

                          • If you're against most first trimester abortions or are in favor of "heartbeat bills" then you're not square in the middle of public sentiment, you're to the right.

Polling consistently shows a majority of Americans think abortion should be legal in all or most cases and if you restrict it to the first trimester only, support is generally 60% or more. Heck, around a third of Republicans think abortion should be legal in most cases.

                            • I'm not going to rehash the whole abortion debate. The position I take is my own, and not that of a political party. I believe that any woman who has been raped or been a victim of incest needs to report these crimes, and get to an emergency room. I don't believe she should demand an abotion 8 months later. There are other situations like tubular pregnancy or severe birth defects diagnosed in vitro where I believe an abortion is justifiable. But I don't believe its a routine means of birth control just because the baby is inconvenient or embarrassing. Again, that's just me.

Back to the topic. I think moderate R's and D's could put the country back on track, if they united and isolated the wackos in both parties. But, right now, its all about power and control.

good points. I think I disagree with you on the meaning of "all or nothing".

When I talk about "all or nothing" I'm talking about supporting long-term goals that may result in short-term LOSS OF POLITICAL POWER if the support turns off the public. I believe the Dems would pack the SC if they had the votes. I believe the Dems are willing to lose the House in 2022 to achieve a long-term goal of changing the demographics of the US. I believe the Dems are willing to risk political defeat in order to federalize elections. They are willing to surrender to terrorists in order to further globalism.

The Dems are true believers. They seek a global socialism-based equality of outcomes. Republicans NEVER are willing to lose power in exchange for achieving a long-term goal. Dems vote to eat. Republicans just want to be left alone.

As far as abortion, I see Republicans running against Roe, but it is a lot like "repeal and replace Obamacare..." When they have the power to actually do something, they back away. The same is true WRT abortion. Reps want the states to make the decision as to the abortion laws in their states. I can assure you that abortion on demand will exist after Roe is overturned, should that unlikely decision be handed down.
