Good stuff on the coverage of the withdrawal under PDJT and Chairman Big Rig: https://thefederalist.com/2021/08/16...tan-reporting/
Chairman Big Rig is eating a suprising amount of criticism, but, as the piece above notes, imagine if this happened under PDJT and he was off at Mar-a-Lago and Camp David and basically saying nothing for 72 hours. LOL.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

OPEC+ tells Chairman Big Rig -- nah, we don't need to increase oil output: https://finance.yahoo.com/news/1-ope...162114632.html
Hmmm, what else...oh yeah....12 energy producers sue Chairman Big Rig over his ban on drilling for energy on Federal lands: https://www.foxbusiness.com/economy/...s-drilling-ban
You really can't make this up.

I want to clarify what Biden's ban did. If you have a preexisting lease on Federal lands, you can still drill on it. Biden put a hold on leasing any MORE land for a year. That ban might not hold up in court. I couldn't tell you what law exists that requires the govt to put a certain amount of land up for bid but I assume it exists since so many are talking about it.
I don't believe restarting lease sales (and they are auctions really, I once participated in them) would have much impact on near-term oil prices because most companies don't plan to drill immediately. Federal leases are good for 10 years. And they can be pathetically cheap to the operators. More often than not, only one company bids on a particular piece of land. And know what the minimum bid is? $2 an acre. And the royalty rate is what's consider the industry minimum: 12.5% (1/8). If one person bids $2 on 1000 acres they owe the Feds just $2000 and a 12.5% royalty should they ever develop it.
By comparison's sake for quite a while in Ohio (which is more gas than oil) the going rate was around $5000/acre and 18% for a private landowner and many of the bigger landowners got well above that. Even now, long after the rush is over, landowners get at least a few thousand an acre. Out here in the east it was a little different because we were bidding on smaller bits of federal lands to complete units. Out west entire units are on federal property.
You can look up the results of past lease sales here

I think the exasperation of those of us on the right is that the ruling leftists seem to want the US to be dependent on foreign sources for oil, while the rest of us think its a good idea for us to be working toward energy independence. If leasing federal lands helps the country become less reliant on foreign sources, we think that's a good thing. The ruling party thinks oil and gas should be priced so highly, that everyone will install solar energy in their homes, and go buy a Chevy Volt. While the idea of moving toward less fossil fuel usage is not a bad one, the technology of non-fossil fuel energy is still being developed. For instance, I can't afford to swap the energy sources of my house over to 100% solar. I live in Michigan, for goodness sakes. I need more than a few solar panels to keep from freezing in the winter. And, has anyone priced an electric car lately? How is someone on a meager pension or SS supposed to visit the dealer and buy one of those?
Cheap(er) gas and oil, along with natural gas is what we need for now. Until we go totally Sim City and obtain fusion power plants, we need to have inexpensive fossil fuel, and plenty of access to them."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. Oh, and to add to that, the BLM doesn't choose land at random to put up for auction. They might throw in a few like that but it's overwhelmingly stuff that the operators themselves nominate for auction. Once it's nominated the BLM reviews it to make sure it's "eligible" (a lengthy 9 month process sometimes) and then an auction date is announced. So that's why (most of the time) there's not much competition. It's in no one's interest to start bidding wars so they try not to overlap each other.
If the BLM were ever to just put up for bid a random big block of contiguous land in an area believed to be profitable, THEN you might see the prices shoot up a lot.
But the whole system is geared more towards getting oil out of the ground and not to make money for the Federal govt.

I don't think Chairman Big Rig has done much to dampen our existing energy supplies, but I do think his virtue signaling bullshit is directly at odds with his political reality. To underscore this point, from his climate change perspective, he should be HAPPY that oil is so expensive. In fact, he should want it to be even more expensive.
It's an exasperating exercise to watch for those of us that actually want a sensible cost/benefit analysis undertaken to assess the costs of action vs. inaction and make an informed decision thereafter. We only even hear about the doomsday shit that will allegedly happen in decades, but we must act with urgency! We never hear about the, "yeah, that's going to inflict a ton of present-value costs". In fact, as far as Chairman Big Rig is concerned, the Green New Deal will be a boon of high paying union jobs!
Come. The. Fuck. On. Begging for oil from OPEC pretty much underscores what Chairman Big Rig won't say....Cheap energy is a big fucking deal.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Meanwhile, in Ingham County Michigan, .. if you get pulled over for a traffic violation, and the cop sees that you have an illegal firearm, or illegal drugs, you get a "get out of jail free" card. The liberal socialist prosecutor has decided that too many black folks are getting charged with these crimes, so she's going to simply stop prosecuting them.
How nice.

I can't imagine a prosecutor coming out and saying "too many white people are being charged, so from now on, we are not going to enforce the law"
