The west side of the state would fill 400-500 jobs immediately. Western MI has a powerful Dutch and German heritage and work is admired. Not so in the SE part of MI, the part that historically has controlled the politics in MI. And, yes, there is a racial disparity in the demographics of the two sides of the state.

All I know is if I was in my 20's and not interested in attending college, but wanted a good job anyway, I'd beat a path to that Flint Assembly job. I'd take the $16 per hour and work my butt off to get placed into one of those permanent jobs. By today's standards all you'd have to do is show up on time everyday, and you'd likely get made permanent.
Yeah. It has me wondering why all 400-500 of those hard working Dutch and Germans that need jobs in Geezers area don't move to better themselves.

I think the administration recognizes the bonus Unemployment benefits are hindering the return to work. Psaki was asked directly about it and defended the Governors who are pulling out of the program, saying they have every right to do so. Doesn't seem like there will be any effort made to stop states from ending the program early and if you read into her comments a bit there's likely no chance the program will be extended again.
At least 25 states have announced they will end enhanced federal unemployment benefits in June and July, ahead of the benefits' September expiration date.
I do wonder that if a GM plant opened in Grand Rapids or Kalamazoo if they'd have the same shortage of applicants.
It’s hard not recognize it. I’m still unclear why, exactly, we needed to do that re unemployment, but at least smarter states are dealing with it correctly. And that’ll eventually inure to Chairman Joe’s advantage.

To be fair, it’s not just residents of Flint that have a shot at those jobs. I used the city as an example because it is so short of good jobs and these are located in the city. But it speaks to a larger issue: IMO, a sense of entitlement and laziness. There’s hundreds of thousands of people within a 20 minute drive to Flint Assembly, AKA Truck and Bus, for us locals and old fuckers like Buchanan.
The factory currently produces both the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra HD models.
I guess we can just chalk it up to systemic racism.
I'm with Liney on this When I was in my early 20s at the end of the Carter years, there wasn't a job to be had if you had no marketable skill and even then things were really tough. Hell, even the fast food places didn't have openings. My friends were all moving to Texas or Montana or wherever to work in the oil fields. I kicked around for a while and ended up joining the Coast Guard. Jobs were so tight I had an 8 month wait to get in. If there had been the promise of a job in Flint for below union scale with a chance to land a good union job, I'd have lived out of my car to make it happen.

The right to vote is fundamental to our American democracy and protecting that right should not be about party or politics. Least of all, protecting this right, which is a
As a reminder, just four short years ago, in 2017 when Republicans held control of the White House and Congress, President Donald Trump was publicly urging Senate Republicans to eliminate the filibuster. Then, it was Senate Democrats who were proudly defending the filibuster. Thirty-three Senate Democrats penned a letter to Sens. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., warning of the perils of eliminating the filibuster.
To reiterate a Talent Maxim: Everyone in politics is a rank hypocrite. Accept it. Move on. Bitching about it is like bitching about the sun rising in the east. You can do it every day and it does nothing.

No, I am not intentionally daft, just the opposite! (Wait, that makes me unintentionally daft?). But that’s been my mantra for a long time. Since before you were born. So ipso fatso, QED, PDQ, open and shut. FULL STOP. Period! Veni, Vici, Veritas, Glenfiddich!
