Liney - The fastest and most effective way to begin the healing process would be for Trump to publicly apologize for months of MASSIVE FRAUD!!! lies that culminated in the Capitol riot by delusional followers incapable of separating reality from fantasy. Simply telling the people who believe him above all else the truth would go the farthest. It's an opportunity to salvage one small shred of his legacy and help heal this nation. (However, a delusional person suffering from Narcissistic Personality Disorder is not really likely to do so.)

Such an admission might even head off a Senate trial. The Senate could invoke the 14th Amendment ban on running for office by a simple majority vote. It would provide some small measure of accountability for Trump's rampant disregard of the Constitution throughout his tenure. It would provide cover not to have a trial. It would give an avenue to say "we're closing the book" on this sordid affair.

Point of law: Since the House voted to impeach, is the House REQUIRED to submit the Articles to the Senate? An expiration date?

I think at least a slim majority of the country is done with Trump. He's gone. He's in Florida, and he's now a private citizen. I remember right after Nixon left office there was a lot of "Nixon fatigue" in the country. Gerald Ford correctly diagnosed the problem, and pardoned him. It ended up costing Ford the next election, but he did the right thing. I'm not suggesting Biden pardon Trump, because I believe the "evidence" of him inciting a coup or insurrection is flimsy at best. Its time to move on. Again, the real important things need attention. Vaccine manufacture and distribution. Economic recovery. Get the food service people working again. Get the kids back in school.

History will judge him as will his Maker. Besides, Donald Trump is not the biggest threat from the Trump camp for the left. Trump has three kids that can involve themselves in politics in his place, and Barron is warming up in the bullpen. Unless the entire Trump family is executed, you're not going to keep them out of politics, and they're going to have an influence on future elections.

If the Democrats would truly be "america's party", they'd come off their high horse, and re-acquaint themselves with the rest of the country that they've spent the last 35 years alienating.

I think daddy is done. He'd rather be a party founder and/or king maker. He may establish the so-called "Patriot party", and if he does, it will be the end of any influence the Republicans have in DC. It will irreparably split the Republican party, much to the delight of the Socialist Democrats.

Putting Trump's obvious personality problems aside, they started off with the wrong thing. They went after Obamacare first instead of doing Infrastructure or even the Tax Bill. I kinda get why they did it that way, because Congress never wants to handle hot button issues in an election year (2018) but immediately going after something so divisive and the biggest achievement of the Obama-Pelosi era just made already ugly relations worse.

This is also very much a "well you started it" response, but Mitch McConnell before the 2010 midterms effectively said that it was his goal to make Obama a one-term President. Not exactly reaching across the aisle. Divided government since the Clinton years has been highly dysfunctional. The only time either party has made any kind of landmark legislation has been 2003-2007, 2009-2011, and 2017-2019, when one party had complete control.
