McConnell played politics with the Garland nomination, and won. Wah. Schumer would have done the same if the numbers were reversed.

So, golly gee ... I'll admit to posting an unclear statement because I failed to include the Garland nomination. Wah. When Kamala/Joe gets the chance to replace Alito or Thomas, they can put up Garland again. But I doubt either of them will. Garland probably isn't liberal enough.

But I reiterate. When D presidents have nominated USSC justices, and its come to a vote in the Senate, ALL have been approved with Republican senators voting in favor of confirmation.

I have heard this story. Back in 2008, Republicans thought the Bush tax cuts were done for when Obama came into office. Biden goes and talks to McConnell saying nah...we are going to keep 92% of those cuts which stunned Republicans. I remember the attempted Grand Bargain. Biden is on record of trying to cut Social Security several times during his tenure in the Senate.

This is what is going to happen on Dem side of things (as of right now). The Senate is going to stay in GOP (thanks Dems for running crap candidates again). McConnell is going to not doing anything unless it overwhelming is in GOP interests.

Biden will try to do the reach across the aisle thing (that is his MO and who he is). Republicans will bitch slap him. He will try some more (like Obama did) and get slapped around some more.

There will be some weak tea EOs.

Harris will run in 2024 and the MSM will back her full tilt. Anyone running against her will be called racist and woman hating. She will run against a Trumpian republican and big shock she will lose. Dems will blame the progressive wing for the loss.

There will be a progressive wave coming but it will not be until 2028 or 2032.

I need to bookmark this for 2028! I actually probably agree with more than half of that. I definitely disagree with “weak” EOs. I also tend to think the Ds win in 2024, but I also think Harris is a bad candidate.

I don’t see the Prgoressive wave coming, BUT, perhaps the younger voters will be more durable in their politics than other generations.

In any event, IF the Rs hold the Senate (and I’m not sure they will), then it’ll be a morass, but, honestly it won’t be much different than if Manchin is the deciding vote.

Well, I think Biden's weak ass plan for student debt relief (he could get rid of the federal held debt by EO) is a good example.

It calls for forgiving up to 10k (okay good--not great but it is a start) for ONLY private loans (feds hold 92% of student loan debt---so ugh.). Even then only up to a certain income level (means testing...meh) and the person must demonstrate a severe financial need. So this will only apply to very very few people. You are playing on the margins of margins. I expect any health care expansion to be the same.

Everyone wants normal--forgetting that resetting back to Obama times does not address the problems that led to Trump in the first place. if you don't address those problems (and I don't think Biden administration will) then you get what you get in 2024.

This election was the first that Gen X and younger voters outnumbered Baby Boomers and their seniors. That will only increase in the next 8-12 years. Imagine another generation plus having to deal with massive debt, struggling to find employment (you are going to find a lot of big corporations buying up companies in distress) and when they do the corporations grinding down their labor force to an increasing degree. And more wealth being concentrated into the 1%.


In 2024, the progressive media is not going to be strong enough to take on MSM (would love to be wrong about that). Maybe in 28 or 32 they will.

Agreed that Manchin (and Sinema) are basically liberal Republicans.

Quite a bit of vaccine news involving AZ's product on Thursday and Friday. Things have become clearer this morning. AZ clarified trial results data late yesterday saying that the administration of and subsequent reporting of the two different dosing regimens were not errors as the press reported they were but rather adjustments to the trial arms. UK authorities don't see any of this as a big deal. Actually, US regulators don't either. But, you know, the press reports that AZ's trial results of 62% and 90% efficacy cannot be supported by them. That's inaccurate. AZ officials have said they may expand to a larger study in the US. Larger studies are already underway in Europe. None of these are affected, results are pending and the AZ product is unlikely to experience delays within the EU. The US does not expect delays either but that's because the FDA did not expect to entertain requests for EUA from AZ until well into the first quarter anyway.

AZ's vaccine is targeted for the UK and EU with it's primary advantage being that it is easier to store, transport and distribute than either the Pfizer or Moderna products. It also can be produced in larger batches making it ideal for distribution to low income counties.

In a detailed article I read last evening, Pfizer is going to get FDA approved for EUA and distribution on 12/10, Moderna on 12/17. You've probably already heard doses are being pre-positioned in larger metro areas and that health care workers will receive the jabs first, followed by first responders (fire police EMTs). Next will be the elderly but this isn't expected until February 2021. DOD is coordinating this.

I can vouch for the incredible logistics capacity of DOD. The infrastructure is in place and has been operational and fine-tuned for decades. Getting it to distribution points is the easy part. Getting needles in arms is hard. I read that PH facilities are practicing the handling of the vaccines from removing viles from storage (the viles are in kits with syringe, gloves and alcohol pads prepackaged) and delivering them to people. The scope and complexity of vaccinating up to 3B Americans is daunting. Roughly, and experts don't agree, the point where herd immunity is reached is somewhere between 60% and 80%.

Lots of work to do and lots of potential problems that you can rest assured that each problem will be headline news, rock the stock markets and convince Americans not to take the vaccine. Moreover, the average Joe isn't going to be eligible for the vaccines until sometime in March. I've seen Fauci quotes indicating wide spread distribution and return to normal activities in July. I think, even then, unrestricted travel to Europe from the US won't resume until September at the earliest. There may be a vaccine passport that would allow it earlier than that but there are some real issues with doing that and it being adapted on a wide spread basis.
