  • Thanks for posting that. She's likely one of Jon's neighbors. :-)

If Slotkin means what she says, she needs to form a highly vocal coalition of like-minded Democrats, to drown out the utter stupidity of "the squad" and their enabler, Nancy Pelosi. Slotkin 'gets it' when it comes to understanding her district. She won, but she's not the overwhelming winner. She could be bounced just as quickly as some of her friends, and she knows it. I liked the point she made about "Its California and New York" representing the party in Pelosi and Schumer. Dems don't seem to care about the rest. Pelosi needs to go just as much as Trump needs to go.

    • Yes, Slotkin's family farm is just down the road, on the right.

Trouble with Ellisa (who I supported) is that she is what was once called a Reagan Democrat, somewhat conservative with a compassionate open mind. I was pleased that she was re-elected but think this will be her last term, if 2016 and 18 elections are any indication. I expect the House to flip back in 2022, 2024 at the latest. When the Dems took over, it was the moderate Republicans that got voted out, not the loons like Jordan and Nunes. I expect the same thing to happen to the Dems. Moderates like Slotkin will get tossed and the AOCs will be left. Today's politics seemingly is intolerant of the center.

      • Slotkin ran a very expensive 2018 campaign. She indebted to someone. That's unfortunate, because she really does have a lot of good points, She is obviously WAY smarter, and more pragmatic, than anybody in the Squad.

I expect the House to flip back for a couple reasons. However, if Slotkin stands up to the Squad then she has a fighting chance. The problem is that local politics is no longer just local. National politics really bleeds into every election. That's probably a product of an increased media presence, but it's defiitely there. I think there are plenty people tolerant of the center, it's just that the more diehards have the louder voices and it permeates everything.

I can't imagine a Congressperson from the Bronx playing any role in a M Congressional race even 10 years ago. But, here we are.

Debbie Dingell is another Democrat from Michigan who fits the mold of Slotkin. I was very disappointed in Trump when he went after Dingell and villainized her when he actually could have used her as a connection to more moderate Democrats. I really wish Trump would have sought out D's like those two, and worked with them behind the scenes to get things done. I think that tree was ripe to be picked, but he chose instead to alienate them. It's part of the reason he lost this election, IMO.

            • Justice Alito speaking the truth. I hope he hangs in there for at least another 4 years. We don't need Kamala nominating his replacement.

Religious liberty and free speech are among Americans' personal freedoms potentially imperiled along with government overreach during the coronavirus pandemic, Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito warned Thursday.

              • I live just outside Slotkin's district but received one of her mailers the week of the election. The entire backdrop was a "Thin Blue Line" flag with her picture overlaid and some text extolling her intelligence service and pro-law and order stances. So, yeah... not a D from the Bronx.

I didn't read the first 3 installments of that series but read all of that one. There's definitely going to be a huge fight within the party and the craziness of the "squad" and socialist morons will be laid bare. I can't believe we threaded the needle of getting rid of Trump while keeping the Senate Republican-controlled. My local school bond even passed by a very slim margin. It's a win-win-win for ol' Mike! 2020!!

                • "For years the Dems have been preaching how unsafe and rigged our elections have been. Now they are saying what a wonderful job the Trump Administration did in making 2020 the most secure election ever. Actually this is true, except for what the Democrats did. Rigged Election!"

                  • Just saw that Iowa District 2 has a vote margin of 45 votes now. Wow.

                    • If it flips, does that mean Trump will lose by one less electoral vote?

                      • Justice Alito's speech to the Federalist Society that Liney links to above could represent a shot across the bow warning that attempts by the left to impose their socialista shit on American citizens is going to be challenged. I see the SCOTUS as a bulwark against it.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see the election results and recognize that Donald Trump's stands on immigration, free-shit and, defund the police or any number of completely dumb-ass, radical, liberal crap, has broad support among the American electorate. They may not have liked him and his dismissiveness of the pandemic but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Americans are not about to buy into what elements of the D party, should they gain the Senate, will try to pawn off on them.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. JH chased Saban from Alabama and caused Day, at the point of the OSU AD's gun, to make major changes to his staff just to beat Michigan. Love it. It's Moore!!!! time

You're thinking of Nebraska's 2nd district, not Iowa.

                          • Ron DeSantis is working hard to earn my vote in the Republican primaries, should he choose to run...

How DeSantis wants to crack down on protests: Expand ‘stand your ground’

He also wants to offer immunity to drivers who claim to have unintentionally killed or injured protesters who block traffic, and withhold state funds from local governments that cut law enforcement budgets.
Looong, looong overdue, all around the country. Especially the part about the goony shitheads who unlawfully block traffic and then claim that they are "peacefully" protesting.

Americans do need to be reminded every so often just how good we have it here. Wars, especially the big ones like the Civil and WWII, are really good at doing that. 2020 will likely have the same effect- and as shitty as it has been, it's nowhere near as catastrophic. That is unless, of course, really stupid people do in fact start another Civil War.

                              • The Rs currently hold 50 seats in the Senate, right? They only need to take one of the two Georgia races to keep Mitch as majority leader? That seems very doable. Hopefully, AOC will go full throttle about how people in Georgia should vote for her radical bullshit. I'm sure it will go over quite well in the south.
