  • My insurance rates have consistently went up over the last 20 years. Companies have consistently upped the costs on the employee as they have been trying to cut costs. If people are looking to the ACA as the sole reason since 2010 that their insurance costs have went up then they are being disingenuous.

Do you actually believe that people are against Trump because he's "not PC"? Yesterday he said he wanted to jail women for having abortions and would take nuking our European allies "off the table."

The man says he wants to have the option of NUKING EUROPE!!!! I could not imagine the outrage if the Prime Minister of the U.K. said something similar.

I think that people are against Trump for a variety of reasons, but I fully expect a Trump loss to be spun as a rejection of his politically incorrect views. Issues like border security and radical Islam will be off the table for good as the Republicans retreat further into a bubble of denial. In 2020 the party will nominate a cuckold so wimpy that he will make Mitt Romney look like Conan the Barbarian.

I'm not even pro-life and I think that the kerfuffle over his abortion comments is absurd. If an activity is illegal then, yes, you punish the consumer of that activity and not just the provider. Common sense 101. Demonizing abortion doctors like they are Satanic cult priests who perform rituals on innocent women is retarded. Trump's biggest mistake was backing down from his comment.

                • Nuking allies is fine then?

And the republicans are already bananas on Muslims ("we need to surveil all the Muslims in the United States") and immigration. So no worries there.

The party leaders are getting dragged kicking and screaming into the immigration debate and they are all pro-amnesty (i.e. "path to citizenship"). Were Trump not in this race, immigration wouldn't even be on the table. Guys like Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, John Kasich, etc. will gleefully celebrate Trump's defeat in the general election and they will say that he lost because people who want to have secure borders and sensible immigration policies are a bunch of meany-heads.

                      • What's frightening is how many people actually actually agree with Trump on banning ALL Muslim travel to the US...and even more so the number calling for a complete ban on Islam in the US.

And Cruz is more frightening than Trump on a lot of issues. Hillary's basically running as the George W Bush of this race

                          • What Hannibal is stating is a fairly common theme amongst conservatives, someone lost an election because they weren't pure enough of a conservative. That is always the complaint, but it doesn't make sense, it doesn't work with the numbers. The only Republican that has won in the last quarter century courted the Hispanic vote. He didn't win it, but he won enough votes to win.

I appreciate that immigration it is an important issue for the Trump supporters but that alone isn't a winning coalition, you cannot find enough votes there.

                            • A sensible discussion on immigration should be had. Trump re-calibrated the middle -- thankfully. We ought not pretend that all immigrants are the same. That's irresponsible. Further, we ought to consider if we want open immigration or not -- a fair question. If we decide that we want to limit immigration then we ought to enforce those limits -- if we don't then it's just open immigration. Period. That, too, is entirely sensible.

As for the Rs, it's worth reiterating that while they can't crack the Electoral College, they have pretty much dominated most other areas of government. Trump will dent the Senate for 2 years (the Ds will get slaughtered in 2018 ) and may cost them the house. But it will be erased within 2 years.

So writing obituaries or chastising the Rs in the grand scheme of things is silliness.
