      • In late breaking COVID news ...... scoff ..... Palm Beach County, the most northern of the tri-county, S. Fl region, is moving to Phase II next week. I'd call that about 75-85% back to normal operations. Most of FL is already there and I think some FL counties are actually in Phase III having had virtually no new infections in a while. That's pretty much everything is open/no restrictions. And yet, the state wide positivity rate is well below 8% and continues to decline. PB Co. has had rates hovering right around 5% for 3 weeks. All the health metrics are downward trending. There will be a spike and everyone should shrugg but, of course, the press will be all over it screaming opened too soon, major failure!!! Count me in as sick of it.

The salient point here is that Desantis has had an imperturbable bent to reopen stuff. He has said all along that you can reopen if you are adequately protecting the vulnerable. In fact, FL has done a decent job of doing that compared to other states with comparable populations and age stratification. You have to contextualize death rates to make that claim otherwize the raw numbers make FL look average. They're not and Desantis points that out all the time and he is right but he gets drowned out by the presse's COVID negativity. Side note: an article today complained that FL's nursing homes can't comply with the CDC's new testing guidelines because they don't have all the test kits they need ...... of course, the article did not report that the CDC guidelines provide for that and advise local PH officials to start planning now for the increased testing requirement based on planned delivery of the latest Abbott Labs cassette based 15 minute tests. HHS has ordered about 150 million of them and Abbott has been quoted as saying the can deliver that number by the end of the year. Oh, details ..... never mind reporting on those.

He's been very clear, IMO, with his guidance to counties on how they should respond to the pandemic, how testing should be conducted and he's been spot on about it's importance and delivering testing capability state wide but of course his political detractors say he' hasn't been. Fuck them. He has..... and I've read every document coming out of Tallahassee on pandemic reopening plans and testing strategies. FL leads the nation in stuff having to do with testing. He's stood up to the whiny teacher's union who inexcusably demand zero risk before they will set foot in a classroom with students in it. Meanwhile, despite counter-factual claims made so by failing to contextualize new case numbers among the 5-17 year old age group, schools that are open and holding in-person classes are doing swell .... kids are back in school from grades K though 12 enjoying it and parents are ecstatic. FL colleges are also doing fine. College and HS football is on-going at Desantis' urging and, shocking, none of the players have died or become seriously ill. The Dolphins will have fans, at reduced capacity, watch NFL games in Miami's stadium. The NBA is playing basket Ball in Orlando that he also encouraged them to do.

You want to see a state recovering and doing it well? Come to FL .... and believe it, the rush to buy property down here from people sick of the stupid shit shuttting thier lives down where they currently live is off the page. The first line in most real estate MLS listings for a property start with the line exclaiming PERFECT HOUSE TO WORK FROM HOME!!!
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Not two years ago, nearly every Democrat in Michigan wanted Snyder removed from office, and some wanted him jailed for the Flint water fiasco.

But I guess its 'all better now' .
He should be jailed for Flint.

First, context. Two vaccines are well into Stage III ...... trials those are Moderna's and Pfiezers both mRNA vaccines. The Oxford U, AZ collaboration has just entered Phase III. These use a monkey analog to ready the immune system to attack SARS-CoV-2 when it enters the human body. The rest of them aren't there yet and that includes the Indian, Russian and Chinese vaccines that will never enter the PH system to be used in the US. There's another German vaccine that I'm not sure where that is.

All of this talk of an October availability rests on the concept of "fast tracking" a drug. Happens all the time and drugs are approved at some point in Phase III trials if the data is solid enough to insure efficacy and safety. The drug companies, not surprisingly ($$$) are saying they've already got that kind of data. So, yeah lots of speculation ... nothing solid and that's pretty much what Fauci is saying. Not likely but not impossible. That's from his informed view on vaccine matters as opposed to a drive-by, uninformed view of reporters meeting deadlines and writing for 3rd graders.

            The misinformation is so frustrating.
I have thought for awhile a vaccine promise from Trump would be his October surprise. And then say---well if Biden is elected he will destroy/delay the vaccine.

If Biden was smart --the campaign would distance themselves from this endorsement. AAs do not think much of Gov. Rickey.

I think the Republicans are pretty clear on what they fight for. Rich people and corporations and culture wars.

Rich people -- usually. Corporations -- far less than they used to. Culture wars -- they haven't since at least the 1990s.

                        • Agree with Jonah on the article below. Pretty worthless if no one has the guts to go on the record and accuse him of saying these things.

The president has repeatedly disparaged the intelligence of service members, and asked that wounded veterans be kept out of military parades, multiple sources tell The Atlantic.

                          • On July 11, Trump donned a mask on camera for the first time, and his paid lickspittles simultaneously orgasm-ed

Tonight Trump is mocking the hell out of Biden for wearing a mask in public. Saying he must have "a lot of issues".

                            • A terrific clip of Wuppertal, Germany's monorail system which was built in 1901. This clip is from 1902 and has been restored and colorized (sound added obviously). The monorail still exists and is the city's mass transit system

Clips like this amaze me. It brings the past to life like never before
