  • Ah, Frederick Douglass:
“When now it shall be said that the colored man is soulless, that he has no appreciation of benefits or benefactors; when the foul reproach of ingratitude is hurled at us, and it is attempted to scourge us beyond the range of human brotherhood, we may calmly point to the monument we have this day erected to the memory of Abraham Lincoln.”
Not for long, Freddy, not for not long. Unless you're able to go to the government warehouse where that monument will be stored for all eternity.

Hopefully they'll replace with a tribute to Jay-Z and Beyonce.

    • But neither do I get all kinds of angry/frustrated because a symbol got destroyed.
Right. Well, it depends on the symbol, doesn't it? But, fundamentally you're correct -- this is all an exercise in vacuous virtue signaling -- for now. But when they come for Jefferson, Washington and Lincoln (in that order) they then the symbol they're coming for won't be some racist issue, but a fundamental attack on America. Which is what this is all about anyway, whether you want to admit it or not.

      • DSL's response to angry mobs being given free reign over America's cities to destroy anything that they want in the name of "social justice" is a shoulder shrug. "Well shucks I don't like it but it's not worth shooting people over, is it? Guess we need to kiss those statues goodbye".

(I wonder if he would feel the same way about pro-lifers blocking access to abortion clinics or AR15 hobbyists owning a clip that is too big).

          • I also wonder if NASCAR will apologize to their fans for their overreaction to the noose nonsense. Just once I'd like to see a major institution, media outlet, or corporation issue an apology for ramming racism porn down the throats of their constituents in response to a hoax. The average 30-something American has been lectured to at least a few dozen times about how they need to do more to actively combat racism.

              • I can't wait to see the mobs' reactions to the Martin Luther King FBI files getting unsealed this decade. By just about all accounts, MLK would not have done very well with the #METOO movement. His resume-enhancing ties to Communism might save his busts and his holiday though.

                • LOL. Keep dreaming.

We're now fully immerse in a relgious phase of this bullshit. You cannot question the Lord (Narrative). You cannot question original sin (racism). You MUST kneel and repent, in some cases quite literally. Anything or anyone that disrupts this narrative is purged as a heretic (racist). That includes the notion that, for example, America was founded for any other reason than to enslave black people. That's where we are.

You could just as easily analogize this to McCarthyism. Either one works. But the devoutness and utter disregard for facts and objective reasoning has me leaning more toward religion.

In any event, there's not much I can do. The path is pretty much written. The "myth" of the United States must be destroyed, and that's happening, and then we get the rebuilt socialist utopia complete with trillions of reparations and god only knows what else.

That's what the Ds want and they're not going to stop until they get it.

Oh, he'll move the ball for the Ds. A LOT.

I do think the Rs need to jettison PDJT as their party leader if they want to really take the Ds to task on some of this stuff. They are going to go way past what most suburban voters are comfortable with, but PDJT is such a turn off that the Rs can't nail them with it.

                    • This is the price America pays for nominating/electing an unfit individual. The revulsion reaction swings the political pendulum hard the other way.

It's the GOP that is going to have to de-Trumpify the Republican party, much like Germany was de-Nazified and Iraq was de-Baathified. The GOP is going to have to decide what it actually stands for. Will it be partisan power over everything (Mitch McConnellism)? Will it be the party of who's-the-biggest-sychophant (Devin Nunesism)? Will it be the party of intolerance (Ted Cruz-ism)? Will the GOP finally decide to take the position of fiscal responsibility, limited gov't, an aversion to nannyism and just plain stay the fuck out of citizens's lives? Or will we have only more of the same - cling to power at all costs?

I expect the GOP to take a beating in November. They better use it as a wake up call to start nominating responsible, thinking individuals, not partisan hacks. It's also on the conservative electorate to get involved, really involved, and reduce the outsized influence in the primaries that the whack case minority wields. Maybe this is the silver lining of the Trumpian dark cloud - a representative party will emerge from the cesspool it currently wallows in.

Then we can sit back and watch the Dems' turn to implode.

                      • If Trump loses, the Republican Party will double down once again on the cuckoldry. The next candidate will have "I'm sorry" as his campaign slogan and the party symbol will be changed from an elephant to a man getting fucked in the ass.
