The Mayor starts talking at about 6 minutes. But the general consensus amongst the Mayor and the Aldermen of the South and West sides -- "we worked our asses off on economic development to get businesses into these areas and it's going to take a 'Herculean' task to get them back."
NFS. #BlackLivesMatter
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
Those burned out businesses aren't going back. If any of the owners had insurance, they'll use a few bucks to board up whatever is left of their building, and take the rest of the money and relocate to a safer area. Nobody in their right mind will rebuild in those areas.
And the "neighborhood organizers" like Obama will stand around, cluck their tongues, and call everyone racist who refuses to rebuild.
One Chicago alderman said about the most sane thing I've heard in the past couple weeks. He said something to the effect of "where is grandma going to go now to buy her prescriptions and groceries?"
I wonder if the leftist socialist, police-hating Mayor has an answer for that?
Yeah, when you get down to it, the Aldermen are representing their constituents and they KNOW what's going on. The Mayor has an interesting take on using the National Guard. She wants them to do basic "hold a line" stuff to free up "front-line" use of CPD. She wants to deploy CPD.
From my experience over the past 7-8 years, I have a sense of how hard it is to do economic development in these areas. Just a sense. This could end up be catastrophic for these neighborhoods in much the same way 1968 was. Their only hope is if government forces or incentivizes businesses to build in riot-prone neighborhoods. I really feel for the law-abiding folks there. I mean, it's heart-breaking. But, at the same time, why in the name of fuck would any store go back?

But yet, she wants to pander to the rioters and calls for the defunding of the police.
Insanity.
I'm all for getting rid of bad cops. If they break the law, especially while on the job, then they need to be treated like any other criminal. Arrest, prosecute, and send them to jail. There's nothing wrong with cleaning house of a few bad cops. And most cops would go along with that.
My brother runs a pharmacy somewhere near Humboldt Park. A not-so-great neighborhood but there's way worse further south. Anyways they had some mild looting. One night the alarms kept going off but nothing really happened. Another night they got broken into but nothing much was taken -- had to have been just one person that got scared off for some reason.
18 folks were killed in Chicago in a 24 hour stretch last week. The vast majority were AA men. If you're keeping score at home, last year 9 unarmed AA were killed by police. In the entire US. Anywho, I'm sure things will improve in Chicago once they get rid of the police.
The ironic thing, of course, is that Chicago has seen a significant decline in BOTH murders AND police killings. Though, I guess, you may expect to see them both decline (if there is less violent crime, presumably there is less reason for police to use lethal force).
Whatever. I'm sure they'll figure it all out with rampant, cheap virtue signaling while deep down in places they don't want to talk about at parties, they want the police on their streets, the need the police on their streets.

It's a great idea, but I got news for you -- LMMFAO. Wanna know why? Because you're SYSTEMICALLY pushing AAs into the WORST neighborhoods. That, my boy, is textbook RACISM.
Let's assume that police racial make-up is similar to nationwide make up. If you're policing areas that you're "from" or policing areas with a "like race" that means all them good AA po-lice get to walk the Northland beat while all them White Cops get the Upper Arlington beat. Or Southside Chicago vs. Lincoln Park.
Yeah. LMMFAO.

Trump says he will not even consider renaming any military currently named after Confederate "heroes". Says those bases are part of our heritage and a history of Winning, Victory, and Freedom
Those names are associated with Winning, Victory, and Freedom? lol, tell that to General Hood

Yeah, I get that. Why I said "obviously not always possible". The intent (obviously) is to get both the cops and the community they service to view them as a part of that community. Instead of having cops view themselves as Marines in Baghdad and the civilians viewing the cops as Nazis in Paris.
I'll remember this when your Maoist buddies come for Columbus. When they rename it Kaepernick City then I'll be especially glad I live in Upper Arlington. You eastside troglodyte of a twat.

Fauci says this morning on GMA, WHO claim the "asymptomatic transmission is rare" is "wrong." How I explained it yesterday is accurate - there's a "pre-symptomatic" phase and an early symptoms phase that appear to contain virus shedders who are most virulent (expelled droplets contain the most virions and most likely to infect others).
He talked in reserved language about vaccines. He said he was "confident" in the development process not that he was confident that the vaccines would work. He was circumspect about dates, he reviewed what I've already posted here on time lines (Phase 3, with concurrent manufacturing in September/October, multiple approved candidates shortly there after, scaleable production in January 2021).
Finally, the guy most people listen to and beleive started getting behind what we've been saying here for a month! Reopening decisions both in timing and speed are regional, even down to by city. One size doens't fit all ....... he also tagged rate data as more important that absolute numbers. Duhhh.
"Florida's New Cases Surge!!!" Well that's true. This time what is also true is that per news reports the % +s have jumped to 7.56% ...... that's a lot, but, gotcha: FL reports it's % +s two ways, (1) The number of people for whom the department received laboratory results by day. People tested on multiple days will be included for each day a new result was received (7.56%). A person is only counted once for each day they are tested, regardless of whether multiple specimens are tested or multiple results are received, (2) The number of people who test positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive (5.53%). Uhh, that's probably the best number to watch!
I started noticing this when these two numbers started being reported 2-3w ago. At that time they were both a lot closer and the correct one to watch (2) was between 2 and 3%. That's what I used in my posts on COVID in FL. Per epidemiologists that study pandemics, percent positives lower than 7% (minimal spread) are good, below 3% (virus contained). The State Surgeon General set the target for all counties to be below 10% when data started to be made public on the Dashboard - I think that signifies the decision makers were satisfied with the some inevitible level of spread during any reopenings as long as resources did not become strained. 6/10 data shows state wide % +s between 4-8% over the last 7d, lower than that since Phase I reopening on 5/11. Deaths are way down. FL was doing great ...... before George Floyd got murdered by the cops!
In the Tri-county region of S. FL, Palm Beach County leads with 9.6%+ . Only method 1 (the higher one) is shown in county data, its probably around 7.5% via method 2 but that's still too high. ED ILI and admissions are trending up but not sharply. Desantis has pointed that out and stressed PB Co. residents should do a better job of wearing masks and then added, everybody should along with distancing.
I think it's safe to conclude that demonstrations here in FL have contributed to the increase over the last 5d. There's plenty of messaging to get tested if you were out there on the streets protesting, wear masks and distance every where you look when out and about and every place you read in print media. I see it less on TV; I'd like to see more. It's gonna come down moving forward in FL ...... and everywhere else. That's because of what's been reported in the news and brought to you here: (1) SARS-CoV-2 is anecdotally appearing to mutate to strains that produce less severe cases. (2) You can make the case it's burning itself out, like all pandemic viruses do but, I'd reserve that call as the folks will relax - they shouldn't. (3) The scientist from WHO that allegedly made the wrong call on asymptomatic, infected persons "don't spread the virus" is probably more right than she is wrong but, damn, you cant say that kind of hopeful shit publicly!

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Best idea I saw today was to re-name it "Flavor Town" after Columbus' First Son, Guy Fieri.
