  • It's possible his Presidency would be nothing like his campaign. I'm not sure he's put much thought into a single policy. Win first, decide what to do later. Just tell the voters you have amazing, tremendous plans.

    • Believe me; tremendous. We're going to have the best policies ever.

If only Trump had highly detailed plans like "Change We Can Believe In".

                • Thankfully, the Burn has finally died. So, at least my choice isn't between a purple unicorn socialist spinning his vapid bullshit and Trump who, well, yeah.

And, shit, with PAH and Trump, you have to candidates with massive unfavorables so what do you do? -- focus on the other candidates unfavorables! It's going to be just plain awful.

The Rs were always unlikely to win given the Electoral College landscape. Their path is so narrow they need really need an overwhelming candidate. Trump isn't it. But, then again, folks have underestimated him for the entire cycle.

And, man, if Trump wins -- talk about a total fucking bitchslap renunciation of Obama.

Funny, you can do pretty well in the other states too. Trump has won Virginia, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Nevada. He is also miles ahead in Michigan, ahead of the governor in Ohio, and way ahead in heavily Hispanic Florida (who knew there were so many racist rednecks in every state?). The one poll that I have seen of Trump has him getting 25% of the black vote, double the highest number of any Republican since Goldwater. He is destroying his opponents in pretty much every Demographic, including Hispanics and self-described "moderates".

Turns out, sharing a completely unguarded border with a third world country and inviting them all to feed at the trough when you've got a $19 Trillion national debt is a pretty unpopular policy.

Well, that assumes the American electorate was actually paying attention the last 8 years.

IMO, if Trump wins the Presidency, it is a total confirmation that the voter insight of the "Wallace States" has somehow spread to most of the Country..... and believe me, I know this because I live in the ATL.

I wish I had a video of a news spot yesterday on the local evening news of a woman all decked out in T-Shirt pressed with the flag on the front and sporting a Trump ball cap emblazoned with the words, "Make America Great Again," when she was asked why she liked Donald Trump for President.

                          I gagged.

Well I think there ought to be the same sort of skepticism. There are things about the system that makes change too difficult. I'm sure there was plenty of skepticism in '08 about whether Obama could achieve health-care reform.

Trump has no shot at it, because he is the ultimate unintentional get-out-the-vote drive for liberals and would inspire more moderate Republicans to cross the aisle or stay at home than in years before. But what type of skepticism would there be about a hypothetical President Trump? Do you really think he can upend free trade? Go back to protectionism? Is Mexico gonna pay for the wall?

                            • Electoral College is a bit different than it was in 1980, Hanni.

The Rs pretty much have to win Florida and Ohio or they lose. And even if they win Florida and Ohio, they still need to flip a couple other battleground states (Nevada, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, New Mexico). Virginia is a gimme if they win Ohio and Florida, and I suspect they'd get Iowa, too. And that would be enough for a narrow win. Their realistic ceiling is 292. The Ds realistic ceiling is easily 330+.

So, yeah--whatever with the Carter/Reagan thing. If you think Trump is winning California, New York, Washington, NJ, Connecticut, etc....then...well, we profoundly disagree.
