Manchin turns 73 this year and by the time he's up again for reelection again he'll be 77. He doesn't strike me as a "I wanna die in the Senate" kinda guy but who knows. He was openly talking about retiring even back in Trump's first year I think.Last edited by Dr. Strangelove; January 29, 2020, 04:53 PM.

I have a feeling a lot of the Republicans in the room are embarrassed by Dersh's arguments but it's exactly the kind of stuff Trump wants to hear. The President can do anything he wants! Abuse of power isn't impeachable! The President's political interests and the national interest are one in the same so long as he believes it!

In a way Dershowitz has combined both talent's defense of Trump and lineygoblue's defense of Trump into a unifying theory. It is OK for him to use the full power of the government to go after a political rival as long as there is not crime.
On top of that from the Mueller report we know since he is a sitting president he cannot be investigated for a crime, He is free to do as he pleases as impeachment if a crime is the threshold.

My 'defense of Trump' actually has more to do with the political hypocrisy of it all, rather than defending PDJT's actions. The roles were completely reversed during the Clinton impeachment, with Republicans harrumphing about Clinton's actions, and Dems defending and minimizing them. My assertion is that none of them are interested in real justice, because if they were, a large number of them would put themselves out of a job because they all have skeletons in the closet that they do not want to be found. They like their cushy jobs, and they want to keep them. Priorities, and all that ...
I don't expect Mr. Loops to understand that, but I thought I'd set the record straight anyway."in order to lead America you must love America"

In other world news, PDJT proposed a peace deal for Palestine and Israel. Hopefully the Palestinians and their Hamas masters will listen. LOL. Not much play in the press. Of course, the Ds generally support Hamas and Iran over anything PDJT says or does, but that's hard for them to say in an election year. And, of course, the Ds are quite comfortable housing and ELECTING anti-semites, so the party's support for Palestine and Hamas and their Iranian backers ought to surprise no one. BTW, WW3, yet?
Also of note, the 1619 Project continues to make its way into high school curriculum. https://www.realclearinvestigations....as_122192.html
This, despite that fact, that the most notable historians in the area of early American history have significant issues with some of the projects outright lies and propaganda. I mean, LIES AND PROPAGANDA. Indeed, the founder's whole motivation is to recreate history and indoctrinate kids in way that means reparations are passed. And, of course, every D candidate is on board.
Meanwhile, PDJT's economy is going gangbusters and polling like it's going gangbusters and the message of every D candidate is how terrible the economy is and how we need X trillion dollar fixes. Not only that, but the favorite to win the first two D primaries is an avowed socialist with an overwhelming fondness of Communism. The front-runner to win the first two D primaries once said that citizens were more likely to realized the American dream in VENEZUELA than in America because of the glory of communism.
This is the modern D party. This is what it is.
