  • Yankees losing is a beautiful thing

Trump announces that Doral will now NOT host the G7 due to "crazed Democrat and media hostility". Which probably means there was even more Republican pushback on it then we know about.

    • Someone with common sense has gotten into Trump's head this week. Unusual for him to be backing down on Ukraine and now this. First time in my recollection that his stupidity and brazen conduct appears to have been checked.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

      • Some counterbalance to the allegation that the Kurds are "getting slaughtered." One can arguably disagree with Trump's apparent knee jerk reaction to Erdogan's message, "we're coming, get out of the way," last week. But if someone wants to do that, what options did the US have and what might those options entail.

I actually like it that the Dems, in the form of Pelosi and Schiff actually told Trump to take a seat on this matter. Both are leading a delegation to Jordan to discuss the implications of the US troop withdrawal from NE Syria on regional stability, the continuation of the Assad regime, the concerns of a reemerging ISIS threat and the issues involving the increasing influence of the Russians in Syria and the ME in general. Good example of an otherwise impulsive US president being limited by his Congress.

There had to have been a huge amount of Republicans telling him privately that the optics were terrible. He can blame it on the Dems and the media all he wants, but he wouldn't have reversed course only to please them

Worth noting that on Thursday, Chief of Suckups Mr. Mulvaney said that using Camp David for the G7 was a "complete disaster". "Everyone hated it". Obama made a horrific choice in picking it. Today we learn that it's in the running to replace Doral. lol

          • Totally shameful

As the deportees were led off the plane onto the steamy San Salvador tarmac, an anguished Araceli Ramos Bonilla burst into tears, her face contorted with pain: "They want to steal my daughter!" It had been 10 weeks since Ramos had last held her 2-year-old, Alexa. Ten weeks since she was arrested crossing the border into Texas and U.S. immigration authorities seized her daughter and told her she would never see the girl again.

            • This article (which I read but now looks like it's behind a paywall) points out the most vulnerable R's in the Senate. There is actually a pathway for Dems to win a slim majority. It would mean going through:

Thom Tillis (NC) - Has the worst job approval rating of any sitting Senator, apparently, and has been lagging in fundraising
Martha McSally (AZ) - Her opponent (former astronaut Mark Kelly) has been consistently beating her in the polls and just outraised her for the 3rd straight quarter
Susan Collins (ME) - Also being outraised by her opponent, Trump unpopular in Maine's first district
Cory Gardner (CO) - There was one poll that came out this week that showed Hickenlooper beating Gardner by double digits. That's probably an outlier but Gardner is almost def the most endangered Republican Senator in the country
Joni Ernst (IA) - Her job approval numbers have sunk below 40% (!) and again, Trump is significantly less popular in Iowa today than in 2016. Has also been having trouble raising money

Doug Jones is almost certainly going to lose and some people think Gary Peters could be in trouble (though I doubt it unless there's a lot of split tickets), so Dems would need to take 4 of 5 just to reach 50 seats. (Technically Bernie and Angus King are Independents)

Anywhere else is probably a pipe dream, though Cornyn may get the biggest scare of his career. It'd be a disaster for Kansas Republicans if Kobach wins the nomination, but prob won't happen.

New polls and fundraising reports show key GOP senators in political trouble, giving Democrats a solid shot to win back control of the upper chamber.

Y'know, there's been a few stories in recent days about Republican megadonors being nervous that the White House doesn't have a coherent strategy or message to fight off impeachment.

I'd be curious to know how seats are drawn in Canada. At the Federal level? Or do provinces draw the district lines?

But yeah, seems like the Conservative areas of Canada are VERY conservative and the areas where Libs won are more "balanced". The Libs don't have a single seat in Alberta or Saskatchewan.

This is also (apparently) the best performance by the Bloq in over a decade.
