TBF, this is nothing new -- just conducted in real time and at a level of laughably accidental transparency

                  • I hold the view that, at a certain level, Erdogan is justified in his incursion into Syria. It's RealPolitik. So is the Trump decision to withdraw the meager contingent of US troops - 1000 of them - that critics of that decision foolishly believe stood between the Turks and Kurds.

As things on the ground are playing out, it looks like Russia will replace the US and become the ME's foil against rampant tribalism, that tribalism now armed with modern weapons - that creates unmanageable instability and human suffering in that region.

Good. In this specific circumstance, better the Russians and Russian blood and money than that of the US's.

Putin has actually said, conflict between the Turks and Kurds is unacceptable and it is said that he has placed troops between Turkish forces and the Kurds to stop it. Ha, ha, sure.

As well, Erdogan is giving the middle finger to the rest of the world that has condemned, and in some cases imposed economic sanctions on his regime, and said, the Turkish military will not stop until it's objectives are obtained on it's SE boarder with Syria - what ever that may actually turn out to be.

The world, acting on it's often soft ideological notions and moral and ethical premises, sometimes through the completely ineffective UN, once again fails to understand that questioning the actions of a particular regime must be based on considerations of given circumstances and factors present at a specific time.

                          • This Republican just wants the Dems to do whatever they intend to do. If they want to try and toss Trump out of office, then get on with it. Bring the evidence, file the charges, and present it to the people and the Senate. Get on with the process.

Do I think these hearings should be open to the public? Sure, why not? Why do they need to be conducted in secret? Aren't the Dems at their "best" when cameras are whirring, and microphones are under their chins? This could be the opportunity for them to go down in history by showing their superior rhetorical skills. They could show how fair they are in presenting evidence, and how thorough they are in going about this 'very serious moment in American history'. Kamala Harris says that Trump has already convicted himself. Adam Schiff says there is clear evidence that Trump is guilty. What more do you need? Present the 'clear evidence' and get on with it.

Never thought I'd miss the days of Tip O'Neill and Barry Goldwater.

                            • I agree with you Liney, no delays. The problem is the tribalism. Facts don't matter, its only about us versus them.

Want to end to end the Cult of Trump? Have the Senate trial vote be a secret ballot. Remove the threat of being 'primaried' and let people vote their conscience. As it stands now, the threat of unemployment means more than national interest to the Senate.

All it'd take is a simple Senate Rules vote - however, Moscow Mitch would never allow it.

Then again, pitch it to the court of public opinion as freeing the Dems. Give them the chance to vote FOR Trump! Don't let all those Dems be primaried by evil commies for voting to acquit! Give those Dems a fig leaf so they can vote acquittal like they all secretly want! Secret Ballot- yeah!!!
