      • Very Trumpian of him I would say ....... I guess Democracy works again stopping the userpers. However .....

I was generally behind Johnson's efforts to kick Parliament off it's dead ass and get with Brexit unconditionally. My take is that the reasons for holding it up over the backstop were over-blown. That's from the perspective at 10k feet so, not knowing the details to the extent needed to render such an opinion, I could be wrong.

I've read a couple of good pieces over the last several months regarding the crippling of Democratic governments through polarized positions on issues that pertain and an unwillingness of the two sides, whatever they may be dealing with, to find reasonable compromises .... or if they do, the compromises essentially water down the effectiveness of the policy matters that were disagreed upon in the first place.

This is a good example. The UK is stalemated in an untenable position. If that's how Democracy is intended to work then, well ........

              • Supposedly both Intel Committees are in talks to have the whistle blower appear behind closed doors as early as this week. I'm not entirely sure about the legalities, but I think if they were to do that, they'd lose their immunity from retaliation and even prosecution. It's hard for me to see someone willingly putting their lives through hell for a big nothingburger but hey...I guess it happens.

For a few days the reporting has been pretty firm that the phone call is only part of the total complaint.

                • - Biden's son is a fuckup, like a lot of politicians' kids. I don't doubt most of his jobs he got because of who his dad is.

                  - Biden was speaking on behalf of the entire administration when he told Ukraine to fire the prosecutor. The IMF, UK, and entire EU were also demanding he be fired

                  - The investigation into the company Hunter Biden worked for was actually shelved by this same Prosecutor. He was taking bribes to make investigations go away. If Biden were corrupt, he would've bribed him too, not forced him out.

                  - You should read the Jonah Goldberg piece I posted yesterday:

And I would furthermore point out that Trump has been attacking the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act for at least a decade. That law makes it a crime for US citizens to bribe foreign govt officials. Trump has frequently said that it puts American DealsMakers like himself at a tremendous disadvantage. Very unfair!!!

                  • Couple more points

I just want to specifically point out Egypt because you might want to say "Well, Prezdint Trump just wants to make sure taxpayers dollars aren't wasted in Ukraine!". Egypt is one of the most corrupt places on the planet and civil rights there are more nonexistent than under either Mubarek or Morsi.

Yet Trump gave more money to Egypt than any other country but Israel. That's a long-running tradition in America but point me to any articles or speeches where Trump expressed concern about human rights in Egypt or corrupt business practices?

Many U.S. citizens have major misconceptions about the amount dedicated to foreign aid,and the impact it has on economic growth and national security. Here are top 10 Recipients of US Foreign Aid in 2018.

I guess the difference between Ukraine and Egypt is that there isn't any useful Egyptian connection to any of the Dems running.

I'd also like to note that Mitch McConnell today said that he pressed Pompeo and Esper (SecDef) several times on why the money for Ukraine was held up and neither one ever gave him an explanation. He didn't have to publicly say that...but he did.

                          • The President's highly-esteemed attorney. Earlier he went on a healthy rant about Biden and George Soros and conspiracy. It was essentially a crashcourse post, except crash tells it better.

                            • There's a bit of a consensus this morning that while Impeachment proceedings will put downward pressure on stock markets, the specter of Elizabeth Warren getting the Dem nomination and there being no viable R candidate to oppose her is the biggest boogey man ..... or woman I guess.

The bigger problem is the impact impeachment inquiries will have on US-CHina trade negotiations:

                              • I think its about time the Dems finally did this impeachment thing.

You'd think they'd get tired of spitting into the wind all the time, but apparently not.

They better get him this time. They better bring all the evidence, and it needs to be solid and convincing.

If Trump is acquitted, they aren't winning anything come election day.

And I'm not saying I like that scenario.
