  • Glad someone looked into the Turnberry stuff. Going forward, it might be prudent for the Air Force to tell the airport that they don't want crews sent to Turnberry? To avoid even the appearance of giving Trump business? A point made even by the NRO writer?

Also, rent control across an entire state seems like madness to me
PDJT doesn't understand, at all, the notion that "appearance of impropriety" is, sometimes, as bad as actual impropriety. So, yeah. There's no way anything changes.

Re California, the #hottakes, unsurprisingly, portray the law a bit unfairly. It has a number of carve out exceptions, including buildings built within the last 15 years. Personally, I'd pass something to address local zoning issues, then pass some sort of rent control for existing or older buildings and exempt new builds. Fucking give everyone an incentive to build, build, build.

California needs more YIMBYs and less NIMBYs.
This is still the fundamental problem re housing in California (IMO).

    • Spygate

This story is troubling on several levels. The idiocy of the media is pretty apparent. Just because you have the right to do something does not absolve you of the responsibility not to.do it. I'm near speechless until my cynicism kicks in.

This is yet another piece of evidence that Donald Trump is at best a Russian asset and at worse a traitor. Here we have a long time US spy with access to what goes across Putin's desk providing first hand intel of Putin directed Russian interference in US elections. Indisputable evidence. Yet Trump calls it a hoax, declares believing Putin's denials, disparages and ignores US intelligence services, promotes Russian interests in the Syria, Ukraine, Crimea and the G-7, plus pushes Putin's "it might be someone else" disinformation.

The fact that Moscow even acknowledges a CIA spy within upper gov't (calling him a boozy nobody) gives credence to the story. The FSB/GRU has the same policy as the CIA - no comment to all questions. Puzzling for this exception.

So why would the media be so irresponsible in this reporting? Could it be that the press believes that Donald Trump is such a clear and present danger to the United States of America, that one man is expendable in the pursuit of pDJT? That direct evidence of Trump's treasonous behavior would otherwise go unknown to the public? Is one man's life who took great personal risk for the USA worth confirming Trump's glaring criminal behavior? Who gets to decide this?

I find the press' actions to be every bit as appalling as Trump being an unregistered foreign agent if not out right traitor.

NEW YORK (AP) — He may be A spy. But is he THE spy? That's the question bedeviling news organizations reporting on a story about the U.S. extracting a Russian official who provided information about Kremlin interference in the 2016 presidential election.

        • In addition to the YIMBYs versus NIMBYs, the US economy is still suffering from the construction industry devastation of the 2008 crash. The construction industry was overheated and a lot of the job losses came from there, it doesn't seem like that sector has recovered. That contributes to higher costs. Another outcome from the crash is banks are much more risk averse to lending out money. Even if you reformed the heavy bias towards single family zoning, you do have other hurdles to overcome. Rent controls exacerbate the situation.

California is a tough nut to crack because that economy is booming and would have a tough time keeping up with housing demand without those hurdles.

                          • More likely shitposting about other Republicans debasing themselves and fighting over who is the better sycophant. Like Kevin McCarthy declaring Trump more popular than Reagan ever was or Liz Cheney and Rand Paul fighting over who gives Trump the better blowjob.

Those assclowns deserve your scorn. As do some of the clowns on stage last night. But, heaping out scorn these days is full-time work and I understand your choice prioritize Trumpkins.
