I thoroughly enjoy the history of the War to Suppression Southern Treason. But, I wouldn't call myself a buff. Still, if you have a question about the Civil War -- or anything, really -- I am, amongst this maleducated lot, by far and away your best bet to get a correct answer.

Chakrabti is detestable. I'm glad he's out of such a position of power -- and being the puppeteer for such a hugely influential puppet as Palin-Cortez was hugely powerful. But, she'll find someone else of equal demerit soon enough. It's like getting rid of Bannon.

              • AA - Excellent. I collect non-fiction antiquarian books. I have a shelf of Civil War stuff, published during the course of the war. No real collecting interest, just volumes I couldn't turn away. I just received (vol II) of "Southern History of The War - The Second Year of The War". Published 1863 covering the events of 1862. Written by Edwin Pollard who was the editor of the Richmond Examiner. It is a virulent anti-Yankee account of the war. Funny thing is, the book was published in NYC. So was volume one.

This puzzles me. How a chronology of and during the time, be published in enemy territory? I search to complete the set as Confederate view publications are somewhat rare. But publication in New York City? How or why would that be allowed while the war still rages?

                • Pollard is a fucktwat who did much to promote and create the "Lost Cause" narrative that dominated the historical narrative for so long. I'm not sure how his book was published in NYC during the War to Suppression Treason, though.

                  • New York City was not 100 percent pro-War. It was divided.

                    • Gangs of New York kind of touches on this, but not in depth. The Draft Riots are the backdrop to the third act. You have multiple things going on in New York, the financiers were profited immensely from the cotton trade. You had other profiteers profiting from the war. Plus you had the lower class immigrants who didn't want to lose employment to newly freed slaves. There is also a huge Catholic versus Protestant angle in pro-war sentiment.

                      • Sure. But he had to get the manuscript to NYC. And Virginia had significant travel restrictions. So, he almost certainly had to send it via some courier. It's not some sort of inconceivable venture, but I rather doubt there was a American-Treasonists postal hook up.

Once it got to NYC, the publishing was easy. It's the getting there that's an interesting historical bit, IMO.
