I didn't/don't watch the debates. I want to hear policy specifics, not sound bites for the masses. I want accurate information to base my vote on. I don't care to hear so-n-so is bad or a ninny. I want to hear what is your goal, what is your plan, and how do you intend to implement it. No generalities, I want details, not the poll driven intellectual flatulence.

Substance over style. Don't tell me "its <insert politician here> fault" . Tell me specifically how you're going to solve the problem. I really don't think that's too much to ask.

I like Ron Paul lots better than his kid. Ron was the first national republican I've voted for (primaries) in a long time. His greatest asset is that he spoke from the heart, not to what the day's audience was perceived to want to hear. To a large extent so does Sanders, which I think that accounts for a lot of his appeal.

    • Yeah debates are totally fucking worthless. The time that you have to make an argument is tiny and whether you succeed at them has more to do with whether you are a quick thinker than a great thinker. A car salesman who knows nothing about politics can ace a debate.

      • I still think the concept of the wife in House of Cards was based upon Hillary.. all about power and what she can get out of a relationship... Including her marriage.

          • . . .but there can and should be agreement that where government must exist it should be done cleanly. Take corruption seriously.
I agree entirely. When in doubt, kick 'em out.

I believe in atomization. Small government and small business. That has the potential to limit corruption more than anything I can think of. Jefferson said, "That government is best which governs least."

            • Jefferson hadn't seen a modern financial sector. Light-touch regulate that and you get the casino Wall Street has turned itself into. If you want to have small government in some cases the consequence is you just have to full-scale ban things. Which might be fine with me. If you can't realistically protect consumers then maybe the whole thing just shouldn't be allowed.

                  • Feel free to explain, but we've been over that canard that the government forced things on Wall Street.

Agree the comparison is flawed...casinos are more trustworthy than Wall Street.

Actually, I said small government and small business. To limit corruption, you have to have smaller banks. Does anyone believe that a bank chooses to pay a $ 5.1 Billion fine if there is "nothing there" or to save attorney fees?

In the 1960's, JFK had a White House dinner for Nobel Prize winners. There was a room full of people. Kennedy said something on the order of " This gathering may well represent the most accumulated brilliance ever to grace this room. . . except when Thomas Jefferson dined alone."
