70% is a nice start, and, again, merely a return to policy in the era that many voters feel nostalgic about. However it's not going to be enough because the aggressive tax-planning options are far more plentiful today.
back when that top tax rate started at 3,000,000 per year. It is now at 400,000.

70% isn't appropriate at any level. We're already in a country where the top 5% pay 60% of the taxes and bottom 50% pay 3%. And the top 5% pays taxes at an effective rate 7X higher than the bottom 50%.
And to what end? So that government can try to solve the problems of those who make bad choices? By focusing on equality of outcome to make everyone equally deprived? The upper middle class is growing. The path to success is clear and demonstrable. Follow it or don't.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
It wasn't the entire world first us second, that's total nonsense. Trade is not a zero sum game. Read up.
If you want the world ordered according to your interests, that costs money. A whole other argument is the extent to which the spending the US has done has been effective, but there has been no global power in history that's declined to spend money controlling other parts of the globe.

Governments have a role in eliminating barriers to your "path to success." That's leveling the playing field I suppose and, you are right, there's little agreement at present on what the best way to do that is.
I'm probably, 80/20 get the fuck out of the way, the market is an excellent leveler and rational tax and regulatory policy as a means of lifting populations out of Rosling's Level 2/3 to levels 3/4.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
OrangeMan tariffs. We finally found a tax that Democrats don't like.
Fortunately, Trump's steel tariffs are the only taxes that destroy wealth. Unlike the trillions of dollars of taxes imposed on Americans to pay for the welfare state -- those add value!
for when you believe in equality of outcome over equality of opportunity.
Signal boost as much as possible. The coasts are lost, but the people in flyover country need to understand what the fuck they did when they put Democrats into office this year. They also need to understand the imminent danger of identity politics. AOC will definitely not be the last hubris-filled member of her generation to get elected to office who is economically and scientifically illiterate. There will be many more. AOC may take the arrows and it could limit her upside but if that's true, somebody else will take her place. AOC will never lose her seat and, if anything, she will gain higher offices but the least we can hope for is that she becomes a member of the out-of-power party again. "Green Energy" as it would be implemented by an ignorant dunce like AOC means a return to the Stone Age. "mitigate deeply entrenched racial, regional, and gender-based inequalities in income and wealth" means "deliver more punishment to white people but especially white men". It's literally that simple. The sooner that people realize these truths, the better.

Federal-jobs guarantee is the one thing that sounds scary to me. Most of what all of these people want is merely equality of opportunity, but that idea slides into equality of outcome regardless of merit.
Again, capitalism is going to change. Let's not be stupid about how that happens, because if we insist on being stupid about it we'll see the return of some even-stupider ideas.
has announced plans to spew disinformation, deceptions and outright lies on Tuesday evening in his ongoing effort to undermine the nation's values and dishonor all that America stands for. Terrified that the likes of Coulter and Limbaugh will say bad things about him to his low IQ base, the POSOTUS will once again demonstrate how easily he is manipulated by outside influences that stroke his fragile ego.
Has anyone here done a GoFundMe page? We should start one to pay for Trump's mental illness treatment. It would raise more money and probably get more visibility than the unpayable wall page. There's no Congressional restriction on paying for the president's psychiatric care.
