    Here it is in context

And the media thinks that Americans don't trust them because Trump calls them fake news. No, Americans haven't trusted them for years, BECAUSE they are fake news.

    • Hey DSL, how many times does the topic of Russia money and Russian influence come up in that Times' article?

I remember Russia was the reason Trump wouldn't release his returns, and we needed to see them to unearth the Russian influence he is under.

I think this is probably accurate. I have never doubted that the press, in general, has dug deep for anti-Trump stories and when I saw the chick (can I say that without having to latter apologize) that presented what was ostensibly her year long work that produced the NYT piece in a TV interview this morning, my first thought was another reporter breathlessly showing us what will very likely be akin to Al Capone's empty safe presented to us by Heraldo Rivera.

Sure, Trump does a lot of damage to himself by mindlessly speaking at a rally or tweeting. But the press, for the most part, has been ruthless in slimming him or attempting to do so.

              • This piece from The Atlantic reminds me of some long tome I might write about M football - which I know all of you have a voracious appetite for such work. When I read it in it's entirety, I thought it had some substance, some veritas. So, I told my wife about it who doesn't care much for detail or long articles but has a very good eye for bullshit. She said, I'd be angry too if I was going through what BK is going through. Just another band-wagon boy emerging from the woodwork to shit on a good man by offering conjecture, not based in fact, but nonetheless offered as such.

The author, Bernie Wittes, claims he is a good friend of BK (after this, not anymore he isn't) notes that BK's outburst, his anger he displayed against the Ds and the hit job they've orchestrated in his testimony before the Judiciary Committee brought into question his ability to sit on the SC and be politically impartial. He found his previous relationship with BK demonstrated to him a calm and impartial arbiter of the law that produced cognitive dissonance when he saw BK explode in anger during his testimony.

                .

This is a long article that goes on to convict BK's testimony as not credible while offering that Ford's is. It's worth a read to see for yourself the length's that folks who just don't want a conservative like BK sitting on the SC bench will go to because of their own certain and righteous view of liberalism which is about to take a big hit if Kavanaugh is confirmed.

Hey, Talent, good article. I posted the following article many months ago:

Same "researchers", same universities. The only difference is that climate change being caused by penises combines two of the biggest articles of faith in prog theology: toxic masculinity and climate change. "Peer-reviewed" means about as much as a Snopes rating.

Did you actually read the entire article, Crash? Did you Jeff?

Fred Trump set up dummy corporations, owned entirely by his kids or a few other relatives. All County Building Supply & Maintenance is one example used in the piece. Fred Trump would go out and negotiate a deal with a company that made boiler furnaces for apartment buildings. But he would not pay them directly. He would pay All County, a shell company entirely family-owned that performed no actual work. Only he would pay them an additional 20-25% above what he agreed to with the actual boiler-maker. All County would then pay the boiler-maker the agreed upon price.

In this way Fred Trump could get around eventual Estate taxes or gift taxes on money he was transferring to his kids.

Where potential fraud comes in is that Fred Trump raised rents in these properties and had to justify the raises before a rent control board. They would ask for your capital expenditures to justify the rent hike. Instead of citing the figure he actually paid the boiler-maker, he cited the figure he paid family-owned All County, which was 25% a wealth transfer to his kids and not an actual facility improvement.

When Donald Trump was hurting for cash, Fred Sr. spent $15.5 M buying shares of Trump Palace. He later sold the shares back to Donald for just $10,000 in 1991. The property had not gone bankrupt, was not struggling, and Fred Trump never reported the $15.4M difference as the "gift" that it clearly was.

What's striking and what probably bothers Trump more than any allegations of criminality is that Fred Trump bailed out his son pretty consistently. Fred Trump was probably worth a lot more than was previously understood and much of Donald Trump's wealth is owed to his dad's more mundane operations rather than the flashy and spectacular Donald-run failures like the casino empire, Trump Plaza, Trump Shuttle, etc.
