Jeff - I'd guess you'd have to make the case that illegal immigration is out of control. Like in relation to what era? what numbers are they, the common wisdom is illegal immigration traffic peaked in the late years of George W.

Back before they started really patrolling the border, the majority of immigration was cyclical, basically migrant workers would go over the border, work and return home. After they started really enforcing the border, that stopped and forced some of the illegal immigrants to settle.

To make the case you have to show that it is out of control. Can there be tweaks to policy? Sure. But to Trump he says crime goes up, the stats don't back him up. Sure you will be able to find illegal immigrants who have committed a crime, but that's a far cry than showing specifically like in averages.

Fruit, I think in relation to pure numbers of illegals apprehended, which is generally considered a proxy for the total number of aliens entering the country illegally, is down as you indicate. I believe, and should of said this, US immigration policy is out of control. I'm no expert and I've said this before - immigration law and legal precedent set by the courts interpreting it, is complex. As a distinctly separate entity, the process by which the various agencies involved in enforcement and processing of illegals both in accordance with the law is equally complex and, when you look at certain aspects of these areas, are contradictory or unjustifiably interpret the law incorrectly. I don't think we can ignore this aspect of the panoply of problems with current immigration law, legal precedent and process.

It's the job of Congress and the various immigration law sub-committees to examine these complexities and fashion legislation that sorts the contradictions out and writes clear law that unambiguously corrects some of the processes that are inappropriate, i.e., separating children from adults/parents who are apprehended and subsequently prosecuted for 1325 or 1326 violations.

No, I've thought DJT exhibited racist behavior going way back but it wasn't "out there" like, say for example, Roy Moore or George Wallace. In the harsh light of media scrutiny though, he's getting exposed. The point of the article I initially posted about was that, as president, he has masked his racist views by lying about the numbers of aliens crossing the SW US boarder illegally and calling this a crisis. As you pointed out, it is not a crisis at all looking at the current circumstance in the context of historical figures of illegal crossings. I've said that current immigration policy and both legislation and legal precedent dealing with it, however, is problematic in significant ways that probably do exceed historical norms.

I think it is pretty clear by his actions since becoming president, and I listed those above, that Trump doesn't like non-whites flowing in to the country by whatever means they come. The danger here is that he is erecting barriers that are purely intended to stop the erosion of white racial dominance in the US. I believe that is the underpinning of his efforts to shape immigration policy during his presidency. Sadly, this isn't an approach to immigration, that approach championed by various political figures world wide, found only in America.
