I'm impressed with the Trump administration's ability to shape their message.
Outcomes with regard to the rapprochement with NK are uncertain. The perception that progress is being made in uniting the two Koreas under the aegis of the US flag is just that ..... a perception. I could see a similar outcome in NK that happened in Vietnam 40 years ago.
Relationships with China on a number of levels under the Trump presidency is certainly mixed. Trump has yet to effectively and publically challenge China's hegemony in Asia, NK not withstanding. Trade tensions between the two nations remain high with the administration waging a 1950s circumstances trade war while we aren't seeing any progress on China's rampant theft of intellectual property and technology...... worthy of US protectionism. Bringing back jobs in the US coal and steel industries isn't going to happen as appealing as this sort of messaging is to the Trump base.
On the ME ...... Trump's policies there are uncertain and so are outcomes with respect to Syria and Iran. Macron's recent and successful state visit to the US were encouraging and might tend to limit DJT's nationalism/isolationism in a world that is global and multinational in every respect.
On Fiscal and Monetary policy...... Trump's budget and the newly acquired debt that China is going to gladly float is going to put downward pressure on the US economy going forward. The Fed is raising interest rates (which DJT admittedly has noting to do with) demonstrating they are more concerned with inflation that they are with expanding the economy in a low interest rate environment. Uncertainty with DJT's economic policies at home and real limitations to what can actually be achieved with deregulation are creating stock market volatility ..... a good indicator that things are not as rosy as DJT likes to tweet that they are. I don't know how all of this is going to play going forward. Voters are not going to be happy in the 2020 presidential election cycle if the economy goes south and it very well could in a heavily deregulated banking environment.
The point is while I see some good things about DJT's presidency at the half-way point, the picture being painted about him and his impact is probably a bit better than it actually will turn out to be. He's still an unmitigated asshole in the public picture he presents of himself.Last edited by Jeff Buchanan; April 27, 2018, 09:03 PM.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
