  • It's Trudeau, who is getting his ass handed to him, diplomatically, in India. Modi is all but ignoring his presence. Unclear why he even went if the state wasn't going to receive him. Also unclear why Kapture posted it. I'm no fan of JT, which Kapture would know if he reads the thread here, and feel no need to defend him. Nice transition figure after the Harper nonsense, and the gestures to minorities are fine until we get somebody in the job who can tackle the real issues. Ideally he will step aside gracefully in three years to let Chrystia Freeland fulfill her destiny. But that's just me.

So you want prison like environment for schools?

I would rather it be more like a prison than a slaughter house

I don't think you understand how much security is in a prison.

            • Arming teachers is not a good idea. Many teachers don?t want it and it carries new risk. I?d rather they focus on what they do..

It is too easy to get on school property. I do think that needs to be addressed

But whatever. Not a hill I will die on.
The legal age you can buy a gun, join the army, and purchase beer should all be the same age. While I agree with what you're saying it's also sort of screwy that an 18 year old is mature and responsible enough to handle gun ownership but not mature enough to handle Bud Lite.

Now they have updated their security to check bags brought into the hotel.
Oh he was on school grounds. He was cowering in the parking lot while the shooting took place. There's video of him. Broward Sheriff just announced it. The guy has now resigned.

Suppose teachers are armed and spring into action (yeah sure) the moment gun shots ring out. The police arrive shortly. They charge into the school. They immediately encounter some guy with a gun that's acting panicky. Are they going to stop and ask if he's one of the good guys?

Everyone that's promoting this idea says it's important that the armed teachers not be known to the students either. Else students could attack or take a gun off the teacher. So it's not like they'll be wearing uniforms or anything.

Agreed. I was against them raising the drinking age because of "they're too young!" but allowing them to decide on military (and potentially being drafted), marriage, voting, etc, etc...

We need to decide if they're kids or they're adults. If it's the former, fine. If it's the latter then afford them all the rights, privileges, and responsibilities appertaining.

Up thread, I echoed that it was a bad idea, but they are doing it at a school in Ohio. Heh.

Is that the school by Dayton? Yeah I think even the local police force said it's not a good idea. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but when cops arrive at a school shooting (of all places) they're going to be motivated to put a bullet into anyone out of uniform they see with a gun. There's probably not going to be much time for discerning friend from foe.

Wait. You were old enough to have an opinion on raising the drinking age? How old are you, or was it raised later in Bammy?

                            • The armed guard was a sheriff's deputy. He was outside taking cover and cowering behind a stairwell while the shooter killed 17 kids. He has resigned after the department's internal affairs office started investigating.

Surveillance video showed the only armed sheriff’s deputy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., doing “nothing” during last week’s deadly shooting.

The legal age in Louisiana was 18 when I was there. When I moved to Alabama it was 19. It did not affect me. I was 21+ when it was raised, but I was against it from a libertarian standpoint.

And I am old. Fuck off in advance.
