The state of FL is experiencing a tidal wave of Puerto Ricans fleeing from the devastation in this US organized territory. Some stay, some go elsewhere but Florida is where they first put foot in the US mainland. Keep in mind. Puerto Ricans are US citizens and entitled to most benefits from state and federal agencies that provide them.
The numbers staying in Florida are staggering when the ability to absorb them into the school systems, provide for their medical care and shelter is considered. There are 2-3X the number of Puerto Ricans compared to Cubans that Castro let flee to the US during the Marial Boat Lift.
The numbers of what this costs, and I've seen some of them, are unimportant to this serious question:
How should the state of Florida or the Federal Government cope with this? It's draining State Medicare/Medicaid accounts that are now seriously over-spent. The Governor of Florida has asked for some $2B in Federal funds to make up for the shortages and meanwhile the cost of returning the essential functions of Puerto Rico to some reasonable level have been estimatd to be $94B.
The onslaught of Puerto Ricans in FL is straining school budgets and class sizes when the children of these displaced people are enrolled in the various school systems across the state.
Affordable housing is generally unavailable throughout the state and hundred's of thousands will be living on the street when their FEMA funds that are paying for hotel type housing end in the next 30-60d.
Frankly, it's an elephant in the room that isn't being addressed in any kind of significant way. In light of the clearly divisive discussions about the immigration of non-US citizens from various countries around the globe, I'd sure be interested in what conservatives and progressives here have to say about this and what they might do about it.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Normally wouldn't cite Maddow but after Trump's physical they released note from the Doctor who conducted it. Besides declaring the President's physical to have been 'exceptional' (I bet), it also misspelled the Doctor's name. Which makes it fair to speculate if the Doctor actually wrote it.

#2 Bobby Fischer
The domination that Fischer enjoyed as a chess champion is unparalleled. Bobby, like Morphy, was a chess prodigy and had a memory that approached eidetic. He secluded himself in his room at a young age and poured over chess texts before running roughshod over the Soviet masters from about age 15 onward. He went undefeated in Candidates' Matches and Interzonals - something that was believed impossible - and easily won the World Championship in 1972 at Reykjavik even after spotting Spassky a two-game advantage.
Bobby, as with many other geniuses, was quite literally insane. He believed he was being spied on, and people were trying to influence his thoughts with wave beams. He was an anti-semite even though his mother and most likely his biological father were Jewish.
After winning the World Championship, he composed a list of non-negotiable demands for his mandatory title defense. Demands that Fide (the world governing body of chess) refused to grant. Bobby, true to his word, refused to play and was stripped of his title. He blamed this on "Zionist conspiracy."
In subsequent years, he became a hermit and turned down millions for product endorsements and chess matches until he agreed to play Spassky in a rematch financed by a war criminal in Yugoslavia in the 1990's. The problem was, this violated a UN Resolution and an Executive Order issued by Bush 41. Bobby held a press conference and famously spat on a copy of the order.
After he beat Spassky in Yugoslavia, he could not return to the US without facing arrest, so he went on the run, living in Hungary, the Phillipines, and Japan where he was detained at the behest of US authorities for using a revoked US Passport; finally, he was able to live out his remaining days in Iceland after they issued him a passport.
Just a sad final chapter to a chess legend's life.
