    • California is going to end up roughly 51-2 by 2030. I guess they'll add more reps by the, so maybe 53-2.

I don't know who the Dems have cobbled together to run against Rohrabacher but he seems like another that could be in serious jeopardy against the right candidate.

As far as I can tell, the complaint isn't about attending your precious diversity meetings, it's about the actual actions people take against you, be it blacklisting or termination.

But, whatever. You're a PROG. I get it. Ends always justify the means. Always.
Fair enough, I'll sub snowflake for Trigger Sensitive if it makes you happy. It even kinda sounds Politically Correct, so bonus PROG!sensor points!

IDK about the labeling there though. I mean I don't know the guy, what he actually, did, or care, I just found how worked up you got about it was amusing. I definitely don't like my diversity meetings...even less than Alabama NCs. PROGfail I suppose.

                      • Jeff: How much government, IMO, is appropriately bound by embracing the concepts ebodied here:

The purpose of the state is to keep society safe and strong; to protect us from outsiders and from each other; to maximize freedom in a way that is consistent with security and order and that advances the common good; to provide society's "mediating institutions" the space they need to thrive; to encourage equal opportunity for all citizens; and to make a decent provision for the poorest and most vulnerable. All of this is meant to allow people to flourish and to advance human happiness.

The case for limited government is rooted in this understanding of government's purpose. In most circumstances, limited government is preferable to intrusive government because the former advances the public good and serves the common interest. The Constitution places meaningful limits on government power for a reason — to prevent tyranny, yes, and to advance self-government, of course, but also to promote the general welfare and to form a more perfect union. Limited government deserves to be embraced because it is a means (a system of government) to an end (the happiness and flourishing of the people).
Jeff: Is that your own writing or did you cut and paste it. If so, I'd appreciate a link to read the context. That said, I agree with most of what you post above. incidentally, I can't get into the NPR link you posted. 52% just seems like a higher number than I'd expect, and certainly 52% as being lower than the percentage in 2008-10 really sounds off. Remember DSL posted that 80% of people live in urban areas, and he provided the proof. 52% just seems high.

But I believe you mischaracterize my opinion when you say:
I can't agree with you that the single most important effect of the tax cut is to teach people you might not agree with a lesson about the evils of socialism.
This is not a debating point. The simple truth is that whenever tax cuts have been given to the American people, the economy has expanded and the General Welfare has been improved. You want to talk about Social Justice, but I want to talk about Justice. Justice is when hard-working folks get to keep more of their earned money. You praise Limited Government, and I ask what is more limiting of government expansion than simply cutting off the funds for that government? But the point is that indoctrinated socialists like my son-in-law can view their paychecks in February and decide for themselves if this is a tax increase. I have no doubt his paycheck will be substantially higher, and that he will wonder about the progs (on Reddit) who told him it was going to increase his taxes.

When Madison spoke about justice, he said, "Justice is the end of government." I tend to think of social justice not in terms of the clearly negative connotations of it in the video but rather as the kind of justice, obtained through limited government, for the benefit at the citizenry.
Well, Jefferson was dealing with the concept of Justice, which is totally unrelated to Social Justice. Justice is the rule of law. Social Justice is the redistribution of income and wealth. We just saw an example of "Social Justice" last night when a 9th Circuit Federal Judge stopped the lawful deportation proceedings for the DACA youngsters. Now, I think they should be granted permanent status, but that is not the point. The point is that the judiciary, once again, has claimed the right to halt executive actions. That is a violation of rule of law, and of Justice as Madison meant the word. Obama had total disdain for Justice. Now, this will be overturned 9-0 by the SC because it is unconstitutional. Trump gets six more months to try to come to comprehensive immigration reform.

I wish that whenever the SC overturns a Circuit Justice by 9-0 that the CJ is automatically impeached.

Anyway, good post. How about getting me that data of the 52%?

                        • This whole "tax cuts" inexorably lead to a good economy is such bullshit. They can, absolutely. They do not always do so, as the 2000's should teach us all.

                          • Justice doesn't need a modifier. It is Justice.

When you add a modifier, i.e. social to Justice it's no longer actual justice.
