Congressional Republicans want to defund the U.N...we pay about 22 percent of the regular operating budget, and close to 30 percent of the much larger peacekeeping budget (for which we get more scandal than peace). Who cares about claiming "Global Leadership" to a bunch of nations who time and time again slap us in the face. They have denounced Israel more times than they have the terrorist states COMBINED. I agree that much of what goes on at the UNGA is a joke. And there's a ton more about it that's nonsense. But whining away about it is stupid. It's here; it's not going away unless to be replaced with a version the US will have less control over. France or the UK would be in a panic because their security council seats are some of the last vestiges of colonial-era power they have, and would bend over backwards to host it in exchange for handing over real control to the Chinese. Sometimes problems don't have solutions that are an improvement on the existing condition.
In reality the cheapest fastest solution is probably staring us right in the face -- strip Wiz of his citizenship and I betcha everybody lines up to vote for whatever the US wants.Comment
