Lisa Bloom?s infusion of 'dark money' into world of sexual assault is a tragedy
http://thehill.com/opinion/civil-rig...l-assault-is-a
The Hill?s John Solomon reported that she sought to arrange significant paydays for women who wanted to accuse then-presidential candidate Donald Trump of sexual misconduct. They amounted to proposed monetary rewards to women who would further Bloom?s anti-Trump, pro-Hillary agenda. (Given that political bias, it appears she would have been right at home in the top hierarchy of the Department of Justice and FBI.)
The indecent proposals would have also lined Bloom?s pockets, because ? like most leftist hypocrites ? she believes in capitalism when it serves her interests.
Among the critical revelations in Solomon's reporting, Bloom represented four women who had been considering making allegations against Trump during the late stages of the 2016 campaign. Operating more as public relations and financial ringleader than legal defender, Bloom arranged for a donor to pay off one accuser?s mortgage and secured $750,000 for another accuser, who ultimately did not come forward. She also approached Clinton super PACs for money but they blew her off, so she found other sources of financing these payments.
Bloom made sure she got a cut of the action, signing contracts that guaranteed her a 33 percent commission if the accusers' stories were sold to the news media. When she discovered that one of the women had been chatting on her own with CBS News about a potential interview, she snapped, ?CBS does not pay for stories.?
Bloom claims that she was merely looking after the interests of her clients, potential whistleblowers. But the report comes on the heels of the revelation that Bloom began working for Weinstein in 2016 to try to halt investigative work conducted by Ronan Farrow and others to publicly discredit Weinstein?s potential accuser ? presumably because she was paid handsomely by Weinstein and had her own development deal with his company.
That kind of crass opportunism has long been a hallmark of Bloom?s career. But this latest news makes her the living intersection of liberal hypocrisy on women and dirty money.
More importantly, Bloom?s routine hurts the real victims of bad behavior as their credibility becomes more likely to fall into question ? with or without Bloom by their sides. And that is a major tragedy indeed.

Don't mistake ``the UN'' for ``countries''. The UN didn't vote. Countries did. Canada, with NAFTA on the table right now, abstained. Pretty astonishing. The US doesn't have the global power it once did to swing decisions its way.
So either the US can withdraw from the UN and lose the ability to influence what happens around that table, or China takes that as an opportunity to create a replacement body, suited to its needs. Or the US can continue spending that 0.3% of its budget on the UN, and maintain the measure of control it hasn't yet squandered by being fucking stupid.
This isn't the best of choices to have to make, but the US can either walk away and win some sort of moral victory only it will perceive, and lose real power in the process, or it can cough up the usual amount of pocket change to preserve power. Pretty easy decision to make.

Guffaw.
Trump and Haley threatened to cut foreign aid to countries who voted against us. Not one significant country took those threats seriously (Canada claims it made them NOT support us) or they simply didn't care. Erdogan's already on record as saying that if the US cuts aid to Turkey, so be it. We cut aid to Egypt and Al-Sisi runs right to Putin, who's been courting him for years and telling him the US is unreliable. Russia and China will both step in anywhere we throw a tantrum. Trump and Haley escalated this beyond what was turning out to be a not-terribly-big deal. All because his ego was hurt by what you admit would've been a worthless UN resolution.
Trump almost HAS to do something now or he'll look like empty bluster.

The UN is nothing more than a group of anti-Semitic, anti- Israel and anti-US morons.
There is one reason and one reason alone why the U.N. is relevant...because the United States is in it. It is not our financial support that the U.N. needs...it is our participation. The U.N. is a corrupt institution that is hostile to our interests and system of government while living off our prosperity, banking on our rule of law, and luxuriating in the very society it so routinely condemns. And we continue to legitimize it. Ridiculous.Shut the fuck up Donny!
