  • I stole this from PNN but there's a lot of truth

flyover country people voted for Trump because he talked about the things that they care about. And since being elected, Trump has done - or tried to do - everything he told the deplorables he would do:

Got us out of TPP; approved the Keystone pipeline; intervened to keep businesses from moving US jobs overseas; started rolling back federal regulations that destroy jobs; pruned back wasteful bureaucracies like the EPA; called out AGW for the fraud that it is; started the process of building the wall; started enforcing federal immigration law and punishing illegal immigrants who commit violent crimes: laid the groundwork for punishing sanctuary cities; called out the Iranian nuclear deal as the disastrous act of appeasement that is was; called Islamic terrorism Islamic terrorism; tried to prevent just anybody from terrorist-infested countries from walking right into the US without vetting; attempted to repeal and replace the utterly failed Obamacare; stopped Obama's war on Christian wedding photographers and florists, stopped Obama's war on Catholic nuns; stopped Obama's war on the second amendment; got the federal government out of the nationwide bathroom business...

That stuff inspires a lot of people in flyover country. That's why Trump is president, and probably will be again in 2020

      • now I agree he's only took a few steps

        but

the pendulum was going way to far left

trump as a nutcase or not it had to go back right for the middle class working people to say as one ---we don't give a shit about bathrooms, same sex marriages, politically correct terrorist labels, global warming that humans will eventually adapt too as we always do without governing bureracracy, federal regulations and epa crap etc etc etc

I'm not good at math. So it was less than 7 months. I guess my entire point is invalid. Congrats on the huge win yesterday, Froot.

You're exhausting. Great point. An R winning statewide in Massachusetts in January 2010 to take Kennedy's seat portended nothing. I apologize for raising such a silly point.

Again, congrats on your huge win yesterday. Awesome news for the awesomeness of the awesome Ds. Pelosi has to feel super-vindicated.
Sorry for being exhausting. Thanks for reminding us that the Dems need to be centrist, even right-wing to win and when they still lose, it's the Progs' fault.

Eisenhower/Nixon would be considered raging Pelosi-clones on economic issues today.

Look, Scott Brown WAS a harbinger -- the fact that he ended up getting killed in 2014 only further shows how unlikely his win was.

Lots of other folks have said that the Rs painted Ossoff w/ Pelosi. Plenty of "neutral" people have written that they did this and think it worked. My information is second-hand. I'm regurgitating that take. Personally, I don't think the Pelosi-Prog machine plays in Georgia.

The Progs have an economic message that can win, IMO. If the Progs were merely economic messages they'd be more than ok. They're not. They have numerous positions (on lots of things other than 'social justice') that aren't particularly middle America/suburban mainstream.

That's my uneducated guess of an opinion.

                      • Trump boasted he got Ford to reconsider moving the Ford Focus to Mexico. They're moving it to China instead now. On the plus side, could be China's version of flyover country #MAGA

Do you think if Pelosi retired from public life that the Republicans wouldn't be able to find some other mascot to lampoon?

I've lived in blue collar, so-called Middle America nearly all my life.

I work on a regular basis in rural Ohio and have met or know plenty of people who bitch that the jobs that used to be plentiful (Manufacturing, coal, etc.) aren't around any longer. Rather than learn new skills to change with the changing economy or leave Podunk, Ohio to a place like Columbus, where jobs are plentiful, they'd rather vote for politicians who promise that the American economy can be made to look like 1949 again with the 'right' policies.

You need to recognize that there are lots and lots of people in flyover country that have a sense of entitlement as huge as any welfare queen in the big cities. Some are farmers; some are laid off steel workers. Many, many of them want the government to bail them out because THEY deserve it; the immoral coastal elites don't.
