LaVell Blanchard was named H.S. player of the year by somebody, as I recall.

As far as being considered, I do believe that Al Horford may have been a verbal commit at one point. At the very least, he was seriously looking at coming here. I'm not sure how high he was ranked in H.S., though.

Ah, Lavell was Gatorade's player of the year and was 1st team for Parade and USA Today's all-american teams.

Al Horford committed to Michigan before winding up at Florida but he was only ranked #89 (by Rivals) at the time of his commitment.

They had moved Horford all the way up to #36 by the end of his Senior year.

Hmm- DeShawn Sims was ranked #31 his Senior year. That may be the highest ranked recruit we've landed since Daniel Horton. I'll check to see where Manny was ranked.

Those three are exactly what this teams needs too (front court talents), but it also needs Hardaway to stick around through his junior year too. Concur about Robinson Jr., he's going to be a terrific college player and should make an impact as a true freshman too.

With the NBA spiraling down into irrelevance and at least 1/3rd of the season gone, the college game will move to front and center. Never a better time for UM to emerge on the national stage. Let's hope we sign those blue chippers and keep them at least 2 years. I'll bet Darius is having second thoughts about now.

Rumor is the new NBA deal will require players to stay in College for an extra year, perfect timing for M with McGary if so.
