ESPN PLAYER EVALUATIONSEvaluationOn The TrailConversation
December, 2009: The son of arguably the finest crossover in the history of the NBA, Hardaway Jr., has incredible length and a fearless stride to his game. He has unnaturally long arms and moves well laterally. He doesn't appear to be overtly explosive but glides to his destinations with a smooth and calculated demeanor. His ball handling will be a source of conversation as he needs to tighten his handles especially in traffic or when defended by an aggressive man to man situation. He works hard without the ball as he remains his teams first, second and third scoring option. Defensively, like most high school players, he has a tendency to gamble for the steal and not play tight on the ball defense. That will be something that he gets a crash course on when he gets to college; however, with his size and athletic skills he should adapt very well.
May, 2009: Hardaway, who has obvious basketball bloodlines, displayed high-level ballhandling and passing ability at both guard positions. He is an excellent athlete who uses his quickness and length to his advantage. He showed he is a threat from 3 if the defender backs off. He was very good in transition pushing the ball up the floor and is a great finisher at the rim. He had a good feel for using ball screens and also could create off the dribble. He was able to get into the paint for a midrange jump shot and did a nice job drawing the defense and kicking out to an open teammate. Defensively, he is a smart, fundamentally sound player who understands angles and has above-average lateral quickness. He still has upside and is developing some point guard skills. As his body continues to mature, Hardaway should blossom into an excellent college player.
June, 2008: Tim is a long and lanky wing. He is a good shooter out to 20 feet. He is the son of former NBA player Tim Hardaway. He needs to add strength but has a great upside. Mostly a shooter right now, once he adds some strength it should enhance his off the dribble game. Tim's length makes him potentially a good defender.
