Also, Castleton did name Michigan his "favorite" today and there's some speculation that Beilein knew Locke was going to head to Florida (still not official) and that's why they pushed hard on Nunez.

Nunez reminds me a little of TIMMAY, in that he's looks like he's playing with fire and a chip on his shoulder.

Michigan Basketball Recruiting: Analyst Describes Nunez’ Path

Michigan picked up its fourth pledge in the 2018 class when three-star Adrien Nunez pledged to the Wolverines over Boston College, Penn State, Texas A&M and others.

His path to Ann Arbor was unique, to say the least. Nunez averaged around four points per game as a senior last year at Bishop Laughlin in New York City. He played out of position and never really got the attention he deserved, Rivals.com’s Corey Evans reported … until literally the 11th hour.

“It was literally the second to last day in July,” Evans said with a laugh. “He played at Bishop Laughlin, and the coaching staff there played him as a power forward. He played next to a point guard that really isn’t the most pass first point guard in the world, so he never was really a threat on offense.

He still is what he is, Evans noted — a pure shooter who needs to work on the rest of his game — but what he does, he does so well.

That was on display at the AAU Hal Pastner Classic in Vegas. Most coaches, if not all, were there to see a loaded RM5 Elite team, but Nunez stole the show.

“He just goes bonkers … 39 points and nine threes, and was the best guy there even though nobody was there just to see him,” Evans recalled. “His jumper didn’t look like a fluke, either. It looks legit.

“He went from a couple Ivys involved before that, teams like Fordham, Robert Morris, to coaches coming out of nowhere saying, ‘don’t tell anyone about this kid.’ The kid had grades — Ivy League grades — and from there, his stock just skyrocketed. He went from low major at best prospect to Boston College, Penn State, VCU all over him, and some like Fordham tried to get him into school this fall.”

Michigan head coach John Beilein and UConn’s Kevin Ollie were among those who went to see him in person, and they came away impressed. Penn State hosted him for a visit, but once U-M was involved, Nunez was smitten.

“The kid just gravitated toward Michigan,” Evans said. “He loved the whole idea of it. What’s pretty special is the Michigan brand is starting to sell itself.”

He’s proven at other events and in open gyms to be as good a shooter as advertised, Evans continued.

“He might be the best in the country,” Evans said. “Arguably the top shooter in America. He’s that good. This is a remarkable class already, and when your ‘worst’ player is the best at what he does …”

U-M is likely to get another addition soon, too, in four-star Colin Castleton of Daytona Beach, Fla., a 6-11 standout. That would cap a likely top-10 class that includes four-star point guard David DeJulius of Detroit and four-star forwards Brandon Johns of East Lansing, Mich. and Ignas Brazdeikis of Mono (Ontario, Can.) Orangeville Prep.

“[Nunez] is not Klay Thompson, but he’s in that mold, or a Kyle Korver type,” Evans said. “He’s not at tall as those guys, limited with his skillset, which is why he’s not a more nationally known guy, but he’s not a bad athlete. He’s not a stiff dude. He can run, jump, has the body on him and the shoulders to fill out well.

“I hear people say, ‘he’s not skilled enough.’ When you have an elite trait like he does, you can work on things like strength and ball skills. Plus, he’s a great, great kid … very refreshing.”

All in all, another that seems like a perfect fit for Beilein and company.

Now, this is only going off of highlight clips but if you were to tell me he was a top 100 player, I wouldn't argue with you. That shot is pure and the rest ain't so bad.

If you have time to watch Castleton's Hudl highlight video, it's more impressive than the other ones. He is always the tallest guy out there but shows a lot more versatility and agility than what led me to compare him to Donnal at that age. I can see why some say his game is similar to Wagner. Put 25-35 pounds of muscle on him and he could be a very valuable cog.

Michigan signed 5 recruits yesterday, 4 of which were ranked in ESPN's Top 100. It seems like KBA has that sport heading towards being a program consistently in the top 25.
