  • Without, really, someone new to take the role LQR played last year. And LQR is no DT. I don't see how that's top ten unless everyone else sucks in comparison to last year.

Agreed that, no matter what, Wisconsin is going to do its thing. And that I will be annoyed at those who look down on their style.

    • LQR averaged 8 ppg last season and in 21 B10 games he had 3 in double figures. He was a sporadic, minimal contributor until the NCAAs when he went for 17, 17 and 19 in the final 3 games -- 3 of his 4 highest games of the year. And with that team -- a team with minimal LQR contribution, OSU won more B10 teams than any other team in a great season for the B10.

All of that is to say (a) yes, LQR isn't DT; (b) replacing what LQR provided last season is a non-factor. However, in this era of CBB, it's nice to have an experience-laden team. And we'll see if LQR can keep it going after his B10 PoY last week. Won't really know much about this team until mid-January with @MSU; vs Iowa; @Goofer stretch. Notre Dame is ok and @Purdue is ok, but nothing special. That aforementioned 3 game stretch is pretty tough.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
      Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

      • I didn't realize he only went for double figures 3 times in conference play. OK, you don't need a guy like that necessarily this year, no.

        • I guess D.J. Wilson got a good write-up on Scout.com today. If anyone subscribes, please pass on what was said.

            • Good overall update from umhoops too....

DJ Wilson had something of a national coming out party at the Max Preps Holiday Classic, leading Capital Christian to the Championship Game where they’ll face Jackson (WA) tonight. Wilson made good on the rare opportunity to play with his high school team in front of national scouts. Capital Christian knocked off Orangewood by 42 […]

                Nice!

                • Last but not least, ol Ricky...

Watch class of 2014 commitment Ricky Doyle in early season action in the embedded media player below. Doyle is averaging 30 points and 11 rebounds through six games this season.

I watch this and I think about Jordan Morgan in HS. Doyle definitely is a plodding type, but he actually shows some pretty good burst at times. He's got impeccable footwork and a nice J out to 15 or so. Morgan was waaaaay softer than Doyle in HS and could barely dunk. I just think once Doyle gets in a S&C program, he could be really damn good. Still not sure about his competition, but I like him a lot.

                  • Good to see he has the makings of a jumper, great finishing around the hoop. Jordan Morgan probably is a good comparison, looked like a better athlete here than in the past.

                    • I don't want to make it seem like I'm comparing the 2. I think Doyle has much more talent/skill. I'm comparing bodies more than anything. While Morgan hasn't improved all that much over his career, his body has transformed tremendously and he's gotten much more athletic. Just kind of looking at Doyle and thinking how much better he'll be after a body transformation.

                      • Doyle also has a 7'2" wingspan.

He definitely looks like he's playing in the mud. He's got to get more agility and make quicker moves at the next level but I can see him being a good 4-year player. If I had to guess, I'd say he'll redshirt. Especially if Mitch comes back.
He's a total Gene Keady-type center. Shades of Brian Cardinal.

                          • Austin Hatch got his first game action tonight for LA Loyola. It's about a mile or so from DTLA. I saw highlights on the local news and tried to find it on their website but couldn't. The entire crowd went crazy for him, it was a great scene. I'm going to be checking out a few of his games and will try to post some video as I get it. It was great to see.

                            • Nevermind, found this here..

Michigan basketball signee Austin Hatch, who survived a 2011 crash that killed his father and stepmother and left him in a medically induced coma, returned to the court for the first time in three years on Wednesday.
