And speaking of Big Ten hockey, OSU is in first with 42 points (allegedly). I come up with 41 for them, the Big Ten website says they have 43, and USCHO and College Hockey Inc. both have them at 42. Michigan has 39 points even though the Big Ten website is missing an OT loss in their calculation and shows the Wolverines with 38 points.
Last week, the 3 sources I checked all had different point totals for the contenders but this week USCCO and CHI both match so I'm going with their numbers given the obvious error on the Big Ten's OWN SITE.
Why the dependency? Well you see, the Big Ten thought it would be a good idea to have 6 (SIX) different classifications of game results. Because Big Ten.
OSU's line is 13-5-2-1-1-1. That's: Wins, losses, ties, OT wins, OT losses, Shootout wins. The games that complete the OT period without a goal scored are classified as ties per the NCAA's records for teams and coaches because leagues differ among how they award points. In the Big Ten a regulation win is 3 points, OT and shootout wins are 2 points, OT and shootout losses are 1 point, and a regulation loss is 0 points. The OW-OL-SW records are accounted for in the W-L-T record.
So as you can clearly see, Ohio State has 42 points... or 43... or maybe even 41.
Michigan has 39 and two games in hand but we're missing our best guys for 4 games against MSU and OSU. Yay.
