  • I caught the last half of the third period plus ot plus shootout. I was sorry to see the shootout has made its way into college hockey.

      • I came across the game program today from last year's Big Chill game, I didn't realize until today just how senior-dominated last season's "M" Hockey Team was. We lost a LOT of offensive firepower (not to also mention our best goalie) from that team that lost the National Championship Game.

I can see why this team has struggled so far. Like I said last night, though, those youngsters now getting minutes are gaining valuable experience which will pay off at some point in the future.

          • Maybe our hockey team has turned the corner---we're 4-0-1 over the last 5 games after an awful stretch of 0-6-1 during which our offense was practically non-existent.

I'd love to see the Red Wings be the home team at The Big House! My first thought, though---will Brandon consider (if the Big House is chosen as the venue for the 2013 NHL Winter Classic) making this a Hockey Weekend? He would have that rink right there, how 'bout making use of it for another Michigan Hockey game along the lines of the Big Chill game. Either have the college game against a big-name opponent the night before the NHL Classic game, or even consider making it a Hockey doubleheader.

                • If the Big House is chosen, they seriously need to move the date to a different day. The eyes of Michigan sports fans will probably be on football when that game is played. I have yet to watch a Winter Classic. Imagine if MSU is in the Outback Bowl and Michigan is in the CapOne. You'll probably get a lot of travellers from Ontario if they play the Leafs, but I expect that you'll get poor attendance from Michigan sports fans who would come out in droves if that game were played maybe just one day earlier or later. Personally, I'd love to see the Wings play in the Big House, but there's absolutely no way I'm going if it's the same time as four Big Ten bowl games.

                  • The NHL is pretty set on using that date. It's been on New Year's Day for a number of years now.

                    • If they were having anything to do with ice TODAY at the Big House, they'd be in trouble. Temperatures here are close to 60. Its the warmest I can remember it being at this time of year.

                      • Another Hockey victory last night, beating LSSU 4-2. Jon Merrill was back after being suspended for the first 22 games this season, ansd he was already a force on defense, plus contributed a couple of assists. I really like the way this team is coming together right now, not that I expect them to go nearly as far as last season's team, but it all bodes well for the future with all the experience this young team is getting, I'm expecting BIG improvement next season!

They play LSSU again tonight at 7:30, I'm thinking about going and making it a U of M doubleheader, seeing that the Women's B-Ball team also plays at home today, hosting ohio tonight at 5 pm. Do I want to go, or do I want to stay home and watch the Lions play the Saints??????? Choices, choices, choices...

...maybe because the only thing less common than a Lion's Playoff Game is a Cub's World Series Ring!

Stayed in town and watched the LieDowns (which is exactly what their defensive strategy seemed to be) lose to the Saints.

Anyway, Michigan Hockey got a point in the standings last night out of a tie/shoot-out loss to LSSU. They're in 7th place but only 2 points out of 4th and 4 points out of 2nd in the CCHA, so if they can continue to make up lost ground, they'll be OK by season's end. They don't play again until Friday night 2 ohio, then have the outdoor game at Jacobs Field in Cleveland vs. the bucknuts on Sunday. Huge couple of games!

BTW (and wrong thread), but since I mentioned them yesterday, a GIGANTIC victory yesterday for the U of M Gals Hoops Team, beating the previously undefeated ohio women, 73-62!
