Flag planting is classless and is beneath a prestigious university like Michigan. It takes away from the miraculous, hard-fought win. and centers talk about this foolishness.

The comparison to the Marines planting the US flag at Iwo Jima is ridiculous, absurd. That said, it’s not a felony. So, overreactions to the act are silly, but it has no place in collegiate sports and someone will get hurt doing this low rent horseshit.

Ryan Day’s country club culture and Chip Kelly’s all-time terrible game plan. Such as running the ball up the middle instead of using the elite WRs on the outside. M’s weakness is their secondary and the strength is the DLine. Will Howard playing his worst game as a Buckeye at the wrong time. The special teams and kicking being bad… despite whatever happened vs IU last week.

Yes, again… Give me Jack Sawyer to my Detroit Lions with the #32 overall pick. His defense played incredibly well yesterday. That huge Mullings run in the 4th Q was probably the one negative moment for the Buckeyes D.
That run around the end was the game and I thoroughly thought they would throw a flag for holding on it. You run enough times for 0 or 1 yards and eventually one will crack. Thought the philosophy for OSU mirrored UM's the last 4 years. Run the ball and limit throwing in cold windy environment. The 2 tackles were superior for UM and we beat Day at his and Chip's game plan.

IMO the coaches had the players in position to stop that run for almost no gain. But they failed to execute. Missed tackles and falling down. Hard to get too angry about it though because on the whole the defense did well. The offensive playcalling stunk for most of the game and our kicker gagged harder than liney eating broccoli.

        • Yet, they've executed in each of the 11 preceding games? Hum, not sure I'm buying.

          • Also, that flag shit should be over. It's taunting and groveling. UM should be above that and not stoop to that level. Great you won again! Act like you've been there and it's just another Tuesday

            • .........but not by order of the NCAA.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

They failed to execute on that specific play. The defense wasn't surprised by the play Michigan ran; they blew tackles. The defensive staff has nothing to apologize for in that game. They'll all lose their jobs too but not by something they did.

I guess the exact same thing happened after the UNC-NC State game which led to a brawl. But it's not national news because no one cares about UNC-NC State

                  • It also happened in the Florida v FSU game, and caused a brawl. I believe there were a couple others as well.

I see your point, but it NEVER should have come down to one specific play. This is the worst Michigan team since the Hoke era that was without their top players on both offense and defense. Your $20 million dollar team has a coach whose full time job is scouting Michigan. You have exactly ONE penalty called on you and you are playing at home with a trip to the conference Championship game on the line.

                      Correct and resubmit, please.

                      • An additional tidbit regarding the flag planting incident.

The flag was eventually rescued from the enraged red-clad hordes by none other than Jason Avant. He tore the flag away from the angry ohioans and stuffed it in his jacket. Left the field with it.

                        Avant always had great hands.

Yet, it would have been funny if ohio kept the flag for their trophy room.

That way, when they showed it to all of their future recruits, they would have to answer to "Wasn't that the time when you were ranked #2 and were a 20 point favorite to an unranked 6-5 Michigan team that was without their 2 best players, and lost??"

                          • An underrated factor is how M was able to hold onto possession of the ball for basically all of crunch time. They gained possession of the ball with 1:58 left in the 3rd quarter. Milked the clock on two long possessions. Ran 27 plays when compared to 7 for OSU. It was also one random and lucky moment after another that kept M with the ball.
Such as: The ridiculous pass from Warren to O’Leary. An awesome scramble by Warren. PI call on Denzel Ward, who has tanked his draft stock. The huge Mullings run when it should have been a TFL. The refs giving M a favorable mark on a run that I thought was short of the 1st down.

Yeah, Ryan Day and Chip Kelly’s offensive game plan was an all-time head scratcher. Prove you’re the tougher team! Wanting to force the run up the middle when M has two 1st RD pick DTs. Graham should be a top 10 pick and Grant is fringe 1st RD. Day 2 pick at the very worst. If OSU aired it out, all they needed was two TDs and I doubt M was capable of scoring that much. Davis Warren and the passing attack is so incompetent. Though I do like the young TEs at M. Something to look forward to in the future.

                            • This is a pretty good recap of how the brawl started and the author stresses how the two head coaches got involved in stopping it (Moore) or didn't (Day). I've already made my case that M planting a flag in the center of OSU's "O" was demonstrative of the emotional intensity of this particular rivalry. Even outside of The Game, flag planting has become a rather common occurrence after a big win on a rival opponents home field. That flag planting act by M players, as common as it has become, should not have resulted in the reaction by OSU players. They lost, leave the field. Let the victors celebrate.

Sure, it could be considered disrespectful and could be called out as inappropriate but those doing that don't understand the intensity of this rivalry and the kind of emotions associated with winning or losing. I'm fine with the BIG quietly issuing fines to both teams as a deterrent to doing flag planting but leave it at that.

Sherrone Moore tried to separate players during the Michigan vs Ohio State skirmish after the game. Ryan Day was seen standing there and saying "What happened?" Moore and Day struck different tones about the incident during their pressers as well.
