As you know, I like KenPom as an evaluator site.
M is 25th there, which is a 5 or 6 seed if ranked numerically in order by seed. But ballpark, a 5 seems reasonable.

If you prefer the NET rankings, they are 23rd. Two Quad-2 losses and a NET SOS outside the top 20 drops you some here. Again, a 5 is probably reasonable.

AP poll has M at #14. That would be a 4 seed if assigned numerically. on the other end of the spectrum is the BPI at 29.

So, really, a 4 or 5 is hard to get mad at imo (as an outsider). M having two Quad-2 losses and a mediocre non-con probably didn’t help. That said, I think M is a very good team. I have you winning at least two. Auburn in the S16 is a tough draw. They’re pretty good, despite some recent mediocre play, but they are beatable.

Shock the world. Take Auburn down!

Did Nebraska make the NIT? The CBI? Haven’t looked.

Who do you play? I watched 2 Neb games this year. Both wins. You played well. Just seemed to fall off a cliff at times.

We play Arizona State...who has a losing record. We had some good wins this year (@Creighton, UCLA, @Oregon) but had some bad losing streaks. We have one stud player and nothing else pretty much.

Michigan had the 4th most Quad 1 wins in the country. What killed them was efficiency stats and the fact that the top half of the field was set before they even played Maryland this weekend. That’s 2 Quad 1 wins that didn’t factor into the committee’s decision.

That said, they should have been a 4 but there’s not much difference because the winner of the 4/5 game feeds into the 1 seed anyway. All we’re arguing about is jersey color in the second round.

For the record: Michigan. 12 Quad 1 wins. North Carolina, 1.

                    • I think the ceiling is the Sweet 16 anyway, but then again I hate the NCAA, and I'll take any opportunity to bash them. Whether I'm accurate or not.

And imagine Tony Titties seeing Michigan take home another title Sunday ... lol

                      • You only scored 48 points against a hapless UNL squad. I have M getting upset first round unfortunately.

                        • UCSD is a popular 12 over 5 pick. The spread moved almost immediately from Michigan -4.5 to -2.5 and as of yesterday afternoon, that game had more action than any other in the first round. It’s Kenpom #25 vs. #36.

The things UCSD does well are the things Michigan has trouble with. Namely turnovers. Area 51 will have to feast in the paint.

                          • I've paid little attention to hoops this year outside OSU's moribund year so I didn't realize UCSD even had a D-1 program. So now there are UC-San Diego, The U of San Diego, and San Diego State all to get hopelessly confused.

                            • I don't think UC-SD is a bad matchup. They don't have much size so Wolf and Goldin should feast. The question is if they keep the TOs down.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

                              • In the end, that went kind of as expected-- UC-San Diego gave Michigan fits in the second half, but Michigan escaped with the win. I haven't watched as much of this team as some of you have, but I have seen a few games now, and I have to say, I don't think I've seen the same Michigan team show up twice. This team is all over the place. At times, they look legitimately good. Other times, often in the same game, the five on the floor look as though they just met for the first time last week.

When your best overall player is a mediocre free throw shooter and you tend to handle the ball as if it were made of molten lava, you probably aren't going far in an NCAA tournament. But they have the talent to be better, certainly better than they were tonight. If I were Texas A&M, I think I'd press Michigan all game, or at least until Michigan proves they can hold on the ball for a good stretch.
