  • Illinois 21, Michigan 7

The #24 Wolverines are back at it demonstrating their inept coaching and line play on an away field in Champaign against a resurgent, competently coached #22 Illinois. Tuttle will start at QB for M, potentially bringing a functional passing game to M's decent run game - both the passing and run game limited by questionable coaching of the OL, player execution and head scratching play calling. The ability of Michigan to string a drive together without doing something dumb is TBD.

M is a 1.5 point favorite. Betting Illinois appears to be easy money. I'm skipping the game entirely as I don't like watching bad football and will be at a wedding followed by a reception anyway - a nice diversion.

After a predictable loss, M's DC and OC will be under the gun from fans, M web site analysts (e.g., mgo) and sports journalists - not M's AD because he doesn't do business like that. mgo (Seth) laid it all out after M's loss to Washington. In summary this is a poorly developed and coached team that will be lucky to make a bowl.

    Illinois 31, M 17.

    Fightin’ BERTs. How spooky.

Controversial thought. I think Michigan wins this game, but it will be ugly like usual this season. Jack Tuttle was my guy all offseason and he gets two weeks to prepare as starter. Several Michigan players come back from injury after the bye. Two weeks of preparation helps this inept coaching staff have a solid game plan.

    M 27
    Fightin’ BERTs 23
    M -1.5

Don’t buy into the mirage of a win because Oregon might annihilate this team in the near future.

Illinois will load up against the run and dare Tuttle to throw.

That's a crap shoot, because Tuttle has shown in his past that he can indeed throw, and sometimes he throws really well. But he has just started seeing competition again, and he's bound to still be rusty, no matter how many reps he gets this week.

The Biting Illini gave up 49 points last week, at home. So even Michigan should find ways to score.

I think the Illini play better defense this week, against a Michigan team that doesn't know what it is.

        Mich 17

                  This nutz.

Sherrone is still trying to figure out who is going to play C and OT. Tuttle is John Navarre v.2. Neither of those guys are coming to the rescue. M has one round in the chamber: Kalel Mullings. Because M's OL is so spectacularly awful that round is going to be a blank. Campbell's non-sensical play calling and Wink's putting schemes together that exceed the capacity of the players to run them without getting burned are major obstacles to making this game competitive.

The facts don't lie and the facts point to a loss.

Checks last weekends result's ...... Illinois won a shoot-out. Michigan is not going to win any shootouts this season. NONE.

M v. Illinois opened as a pick-em. Betting pushed M to a 1.5 point favorite. M has a probability of winning v. Illinois by the thinnest of margins at 53.4%. After losing to Illinois, M is going to lose at least 3 of it's remaining 5 games.
                      • vs. Michigan State: 83.5%
                      • vs. Oregon: 25.4%
                      • at Indiana: 37.4%
                      • vs. Northwestern: 91.5%
                      • at Ohio State: 17.0%
Games like this Illinois game are going to be won or lost by turnovers. Illinois ranks 25th nationally at +4. M ranks 106th at -0.67. Losing to Illinois is a distinct possibility, despite being favored, making it M's 4th loss in it's remaining 6 games. M will likely end the season with a 6-6 record. Just more facts ........
