If M loses by 25 or more you win. If USC loses or the margin is USC by 1-24 points, I win.

Orji in the end zone time. A fanbase’s best friend is always the backup QB if the starter isn’t good. I’m more excited to watch the game for entertainment purposes now, but it doesn’t mean it will be a positive result.

I always admired Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech. Surely M can take some hints from the triple option and incorporate it into the spread… wishful thinking… Kirk Campbell might be part of the issue…

            Okay. You got it.

You haven't seen Orji play, have you?

There's a reason that Davis Warren started over Orji.

My last gasp at hope is bringing up Malik Willis again. I was joking with my Packers friends yesterday that maybe starting Willis would have indirect consequences on the rest of the roster. It would put pressure on the Packers running game and defense to play lights out. Similar reason to why Tim Tebow found success with the Broncos or the Steelers/ Justin Fields situation.

Similar with Orji. Great athlete, but everyone knows he can’t pass the ball. Very raw. Pressure is on the rest of the M team to step up like if NFL Tebow is starting for you.

That’s my only positive spin on this. Certainly a possibility that USC death star destroys M on Saturday like 2007 Oregon @ M.

The only way that Michigan could be competitive with Orji, is if somehow, they could magically become a great option team within the week, because that is the only way that Orji would be effective. He could likely make the throws that an option QB has to make, which is usually not any deep throws. But Michigan isn't geared to be an option team. They are a pro style team with supposedly a "healthy" mix of run and pass. That's not Orji. He should probably be a slot receiver or even a RB.

Loveland is still questionable for the game so we might be without our best offensive weapon.

Before everyone goes nutz over Orgi starting, it would probably be a good idea to understand what the offensive brain trust wants to do with him. There were some clues after Warren was pulled. Seth at mgo has put up one of his Neck Sharpie articles entitled "The Orgi Offense". Link below.

Seth does a great job describing what amounts to a look at a part of the Moore/Campbell play-book for Orgi. From game-film after Warren was pulled and Orgi came in Seth believes these were offensive ideas to optimize Orgi's skill set"
                      1. Weird formations to up the difficulty of run fits.
                      2. Zone-read options to force the defense to spend a defender on the QB.
                      3. An inside-outside run combo to stretch the defense in space.
                      4. Play-action to keep the safeties and LBs from overplaying the run.
                      5. RPOs, same.
                      6. Actual passing concepts.
He then proceeds to embed actual play videos and then diagram exactly what's going on offensively and how Ast. defended the Orgi offense. Understanding the concepts and blocks and blocking assignments to run successful plays with Orgi as QB makes it easier to be objectively critical lessening the tendencies from the fan base to issue Hawt-Takes. I claim no in-depth knowledge of running what amounts to a hybrid-Harbauffence but the offense that Orgi ran v. Ast. are a combination of typical "Smash" ball that M has used effectively since 2021 with variations of Rich-Rod's Read-Pass-Option thrown in to compliment smash.

In the videos, Orgi looked like he both understood the concept of this Orgiized offense he was asked to run and could execute it fairly well. In it, Smash is complimented with RPO plays. The net result or what should be the net result is that the Orgiized offense can punish defenses that want to bring their safeties up to stack the box using Play-Action and RPOs. Nothing surprisingly new. These plays are base concepts in option offenses. When they work, that threat creates rushing lanes for smash. Seth opines that the Orgi offense will work and is only missing more of a demonstrated threat to throw wide (think Edwards being used like we want him to be used as a receiver threat).

You have to read Seth's article to understand how this can work, how it did mostly work against Ast. and what this means for this weekend's game v. USC. If Moore pulls this off and M with Orgi as QB can sustain some drives and pay-them off while keeping the D rested, M will at the very least should be competitive.

SPONSOR NOTE: Reminder that Champion Circle is running an EXCLUSIVE TO MGOBLOG promotion to put one reader on the field against USC. Winner get two tickets, two pregame field passes, a $1,000 travel voucher, and invitation to the team walkthrough(!!!) and the football alumni tailgate. Enter by tomorrow at 5PM by contributing to the fund, which goes directly to our players. We haven't done a good job of promoting this, which I'm a little embarrassed about, but which also means if you enter right now you have a ridiculously high chance of winning given the value. Go change that.SCHEDULE NOTE: Moving this to Monday mornings since it's just been sitting in the hopper (if I don't get UFR started by Monday morning it'll never get out Wednesday).-------------------------------It took two games and most of a third to see it, but we were finally treated to a few real drives with Alex Orji under center. This was our first opportunity to see the kinds of plays they imagined for Alex Orji when they were supposedly installing an offense suited to his strengths this offseason. Let's take a look at six ideas that came out of the three Orji drives at the end of Saturday's game.Weird formations to up the difficulty of run fits.Zone-read options to force the defense to spend a defender on the QB.An inside-outside run combo to stretch the defense in space.Play-action to keep the safeties and LBs from overplaying the run.RPOs, same.Actual passing concepts.[After THE JUMP: A drawing per idea.]

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
