Things to watch:

Offense: M has a recent history of stuffing teams like Ast. in a locker. Ast. is 2-0 but has major weaknesses on the OL (OTs) with pass-pro. Accordingly, PA or deep throws from roll-outs aren't a big component of their offense. Like Fst. Ast., lives on quick throws from their QB who is also a credible runner. Passing attempts out number running attempts by a large amount with QB runs featured in the run game. Their WRs are decent, not great. They don't throw to their TEs at all and they aren't great blockers either. Their offense lines up in 4 wide most of the time. Quick throws to these guys predominate.

I'm not going to be closely watching Ast's offense but instead will be watching M's defense very closely. Texas success with quick throws from Ewers occurred by getting their receivers matched up against M's LBs. We need to see a big step up in LB play from Ernest Hausmann and Jimmy Rolder. Quinten Johnson isn't an NFL linebacker (yet) and he was asked to do things by Wink that he wasn't ready to do. Watch for Jyaire Hill's play to improve. Hill just got flat out beaten by UT's receivers. That isn't on WInk.

A lot of the LB and secondary grades in the UFR were bad because of how Wink deployed them. We want to see Martindale doing less exotic stuff and defaulting to the fact that these guys are young and will make mistakes if you ask them to do more than they are capable. IOW, can Wink adapt to the college game?

It is entirely possible that M's offensive struggles and Wink stubbornly continuing his exotic approach to defending Ast. will keep this game uncomfortably close. That will signal a very long season with marginally competent teams (like MSU) may beating M and the best teams in the Big Ten will roll. In that case, M's ceiling is probably a lot lower than most of thought it would be. M may not get to 6 wins.
