  • Texas 31, Michigan 12

Michigan opens at +5. Sounds about right. The Wolverines struggled to beat what proved to be a good Fresno State team on both sides of the ball. In that win, M showed some troubling weaknesses mostly on offense.

Getting the defense's issues out of the way, too many Cover-0 schemes when Keene was dealing strikes that exposed the back end, IMO. Ewers is going to take advantage of that if WInk thinks he can do that v. the Longhorns.

On offense, wow! A lot to unpack here. I thought the biggest issue on offense was OL play with the tag team rotation at C involving Giudice and Griffin. That Moore seems to be continuing the run-centric offense of team 143, requires solid C play. Texas is going to exploit that weakness with the goal of shutting down the inside run game and forcing Warren to make solid reads, get the play calls right and connect with his receivers. Second to that issue was the failure of all of M's receivers, save Loveland, to get much separation. Lastly, it appeared to me that Warren checked down too often but that might be mitigated by M's receivers not getting open or aggravated by Fresno State's pass D that confused Warren ???? Hard to say at this point. Oh, and note to Sherrone, when the score is 22 - 10, you go for 2.

The Longhorns mauled CSU running 74 plays and racking up over 500y of total offense with 350 of that passing. Ewers threw 3 TD passes. M's defense should be stouter than that and reduce the Texas offense's efficiency. If Wink can get pressure on Ewers rushing 4, Ewer's gaudy stats v. CSU won't be repeated. If he can't and has to get 5 or more involved in the rush, that's going to be a problem.

M looks to be the kind of team that wants to strangle an opponent's offense and get a win by scoring in the low 20s. I'll be shocked if this team can do that versus Texas.

Early score prediction, UT 32, M 24 ...... I reserve the right to change that.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    M +6

Back in 2022, I recall listening to a lengthy NFL podcast segment about how Wink Martindale’s defensive volatility helped the NY Giants make a miraculous playoff run. We’re going to need that magic if M’s going to win. Win the turnover margin 3-1. SMASH Mullings on offense with big-game Don. Warren take care of the ball and hopefully a WR steps up.

M can certainly win, but we’re going to need some help from the D. Keep it close and win the game at the end. I would objectively pick Texas to win because you can’t bank on winning the turnover margin +2. People are going to hype up this Texas offense all week. Well, M held a better Washington offense to 13 points a few months ago. I’ve seen spookier. This Michigan defense is almost on par as last year when it comes to the starters.

    Go Blue!

Texas did indeed cheat back in 2007. Illegal recruiting violations.

Crazy they would be called “cheaters” for something they did 17 years ago…

How does Texas need to cheat? I mean, why not if you can get away with it and not get stiff penalties.. But they have the best recruiting base in the country and normally get the pick of the state. They have to be the perpetually underachieving program of the country

They absolutely have been underachievers short of 2005. My issue with UT is how they destroyed the B12 with their arrogance...they were the main reason UNL left...there were other reasons as well...but the fact is Texas tried to exert their power on the B12 and it drove Mizzou, UNL, A&M and CU out...and in the end destroyed what cache the league had left. For the resources at their disposal they should have a ton more hardware...

The problem is Texas throws money at the problem, they rarely want to put in the work needed to have an elite program.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

We’re gonna need to dial up a Lloydball classic in this one. I’m not holding my breath. I haven’t seen an offense this inept since before Harbaugh took over. I’d take 2017 over this shitshow.

Ugh. We’re gonna get worked but hopefully it will help Warren and the o-line in the long run.
