I can't speak for Mike but I know how expensive a trip to Pasadena staying there for a weekend and going to the Rose Bowl can be. And that's not being extravagant. Hoteliers that are usually reasonably inexpensive jack there prices up to the moon ...... and idiots pay what the asking is for the day. That results in the prices going up again because the big guys use demand pricing Algorithms. I'd say that by now - that's 72h after the announcement of who would be in the Rose - if you can find a room in Pasadena, you're extremely lucky and you'll pay through the nose for it.
The best bet is to stay somewhere well outside of Pasadena and try to find public transportation or shell out for Uber. Then there's the Rose ticket - good luck with that.Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. On Coronado Island there is this bar and restaurant called The Tavern. Strongest drinks in SoCal and great food. Sunsets are fabulous.

I lived in San Diego for a few years and agree with AA. Fantastic city. We used to get drinks at Hotel Del and in the winter they put up an ice skating rink on the beach. You can literally ice skate next to palm trees while waves from the Pacific roll in.Comment
