If you put any faith in PFF grading, this is an interesting display of them (not paywalled). The PFF grades are consistent with various analysis I've read and the eyeball scan of video. Not surprisingly, Alabama has a better OL per PFF overall but it's not imminently clear who is going to win this battle. That's because the differences are negligible and UAT has better PFFs in some offensive/defensive areas and so does M.
This is one of those games where, "that's why they play the game" applies. It's a hard game to predict an outcome. The intangibles are in play in this game: UAT thinks they are the best team in CFB and will play with confidence. M is on a mission and has the chemistry and leadership to play beyond itself. IMO, M's approach to this game - how it is going to scheme offense and defense - has the potential of making or breaking the team. Fuck up the game plan and in game play-calls (see TCU last year) and the coaches could submarine the mission the players have rallied around.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.Comment
