I browse Nebby forums from time to time and they seem to have a chip on their shoulder about their own legacy and being in the B1G. Most believe it was a mistake to join and wish they could recapture the good ole days of dominating a division without the grinding defensive minded teams every week of the big ten or other excuses. I mean they seem to have never fit in with this conference.
Truth. The Big Ten wasn't a Midwest conference- it was a Great Lakes conference. There was a regional character to the sport, where there were common threads between the teams This made it unique from the NFL- and just about everything else. You can get Mc Donalds anyplace, but so what? Now, Runza? Well, that's something unique.

Outside of Iowa, I'm not sure who Nebraska can identify with in the B1G. They seem much more in tune with the former Big 8.

      • I just learned this weekend about the stadium renovation that's supposed to start this off-season. Kind of surprised that they're doing another big project. Seems like it wasn't that long ago that the upper deck on the east side was installed with new suites, etc.

Nebraska? I heard it's going to reduce capacity by about 15k seats

          • The South stadium (end zone) is horrible. Small seat...no seat backs...no concourse...few bathrooms. It's where my folks hat their seat for years...it wasn't quite as bad back in the 70's or 80's but now with most people being fatasses and night games where bathroom visit are far more frequent it is a mess. I guess in 2025 there will be no south stands for one year during construction. I hear Trev is talking about possible doing some neutral site games that year...like Arrowhead in KC 3 hours away. The new South with be pretty cool from what I have seen with a new concourse with modern facilities, food options, ADA accomodations, new suites, etc. It's actually going to reduce capacity by several thousand but it is needed.

            • Yes, Nebraska. From an Athletic article that just came out last week.

Stadium capacity, currently 82,841, would not be impacted next season. After the anticipated demolition of South Stadium in early 2025, capacity would temporarily be reduced by approximately 22,000.
Capacity at the conclusion of the project would be reduced by approximately 8,000 to 10,000 — 10 to 12 percent of the current figure — to a final number in the range of 73,000 to 75,000.
According to people I talked to, it sounds like there will be wider seats and more chairbacks that will reduce the total number of seats. The south endzone (where we sat on Saturday) will be completely demolished (22,000 seats) and rebuilt with suites on top that look similar the east and west grandstands but have significantly fewer seats. There will also be new upper and lower concourses.

              • Also a good way to maybe keep that "sellout" streak going heh. With current capacity at 90,000+ that is in danger if the product on the field keeps sucking.

                • My thoughts from the game....
                  • I doubt that Nebraska's OL is very good, but damn, our pass rush is sick.
                  • I was pissed at McCarthy for throwing that first pass to Wilson until Wilson made that circus catch. A team with better DBs probably picks that one off. I was like "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING MCCARTHY?" in the split second between when the two red jerseyes came into the picture and Wilson grabbed the ball. I still can't believe that he caught it. I didn't expect him to be the huge impact player that he has been.
                  • It looks like the OL and the RBs were just rusty for those first few games. Edwards looked a lot better (although his numbers didn't show it). Corum looks like the old Corum. The OL was mashing guys and Kal-el Mullings looks like a legit big back.
                  • I like our run defense and our pass rush, and the cornerbacks have been practically invisible all season (in a good way). But we've got issues at safety. It's definitely the team's weakness and I'm a bit nervous to see how Penn State and OSU exploit them.
                  • It sure was nice to have a stress-free road win from the getgo. When was the last time that we had one of those?

                  • You can be impressed with your offensive performance yes. We were missing 3 starters including two DL...but frankly fully healthy it wouldn't have made a ton of difference. Don't read to much into the defensive performance...although I do think your D is very good...UNL is as bad on offense as I can ever remember...going back to the late 60's...probably 1968 was worse as we got shut out at home by KSU that year. Our O only managed 10 points against the Goofers...7 of which were on a trick play.

In other words...we suck donkey balls on offense...and are ok on defense. This is why I picked us to win only 5 games this year.

                    • Fair 'nuff. We won't be able to read too much into anything until we play Penn State. Actually Maryland concerns me too.

                        • We stumbled upon Michigan’s locker room before the game while seeking shade and water. Figured we may as well hang out there until the game started.
