I think part of that is 2019 LSU being the best modern college football team that I’ve ever seen. Just my opinion. Eye test, they beat 2020 Bama.

    • I'm still not particularlu certain re 2019 LSU vs 2020 UAT, but I do think it's worth noting that when 2021 Georgia -- and their hellaciously good defense -- played a fully healthy UAT team, they gave up 41 points and 530 yards. And UAT team wasn't anywhere close to the 2020 version. That UAT team was dependent on one WR whereas those UAT teams had multiple threats AND Najee Harris.

The 2019 UAT team, too. I know they lost to LSU, but if the CFP was at 12 for 2019 does anyone really think we wouldn't have had a rematch? (assuming brackets worked out).

So, I mean, you can definitely beat those elite SEC defenses, but you gotta be absolute superb outside and if you're not, they'll get ya big time and there's really not any sort of happy medium in-between.

      • So, back on topic....would M fans prefer Ohio State beat Georgia or vice-versa? I mean, if you play Georgia it's more than likely not gonna be good. It'd be like TCU playing M -- there's a chance, but it's not a good one. Whereas, if you play Ohio State then HARBAUGH!!!! will not only be virtually guaranteed of winning a national title, but he'll get to beat Ohio State twice in one season.

It seems obvious to me that you will all be Ohio State fans on NYE. But self-interest often doesn't overcome hate, so I guess I'm a little uncertain.

I've got mixed feelings on an M/osu rematch. That's because there's no way crd is going to let whoever makes the D scheme decision put in a C-0, 11 guys in the box scheme. A more conventional blitzy zone D, ala. the Meathheads approach to M would be more like it. That changes the game, considerably, IMO.

There's also this feeling that we got ours in November. Joy followed. Why do we want to risk osu stealing M's lunch money and the embarrassment from that extinguish the joy?

I'd really rather see Harbaugh get another shot at Kirby who, along with Dabo and Kelley, is right up there on my shit list. I don't think the 2022 UGA team is as hellaciously good as that 2021 team was that M faced last year. Even without Corum, the 2022 M team is better than the 2021 version mainly because JJ >>> McNamara. There's a "chance." M could make it competitive into the 4th and steal one.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • All I've been trying to say is I think this game will be closer than people think. Good teams have taken Michigan late into games this year before Michigan puts them away.

Michigan's undefeated record is impressive, because its not easy in any league to go undefeated. It takes a really good team to pull that off.

            A mini-review of Michigan's season:

Maryland - took Michigan all the way to the 9:10 mark of the 4th quarter and was within 5 points before Michigan finally put some space between them. Tua 2.0 gave Michigan fits that day. Max Duggan can do the same.

MSU - held Michigan to 5 field goals before they decided to start committing felonies by swinging their helmets.

Rutgers - was leading Michigan 17-14 at halftime, before Michigan finally got serious and started playing real football.

Illinois - I've already mentioned them, but I think we've all forgotten how close Michigan was to losing that game. There was 9 seconds to go, when Moody hit the winning FG. The Illini were a scrappy football team. Kind of like TCU.

Ohio State - their biggest mistake was overplaying the run. They went all out to stop the run, but they forgot to include, "Yeah, but .. what IF he breaks free?" in their strategy. It burned them at least twice. They were also leading at the half.

            ---

So Michigan has not exactly blown everyone up this year. They've struggled at times with teams they should have whipped from the start.

Duggan is going to give Michigan problems. Moreso than any other QB they've played this season. How Michigan deals with Duggan is going to determine who wins the game.

I'm with Jeff on this one. I'd like Michigan to get another shot at Georgia. I'm not cocky or anything like that, because if I've learned anything over the last 22 years, its that Michigan can let you down when you're expecting them to be great. For me, M vs OSU was settled in November. On to 2023. M vs Georgia is unfinished business.

About 75% of Georgia's 2021 team is now playing in the NFL. So, as great as their season has been, I think Michigan can go nose to nose with them far better this year than last. Especially M's offense vs Georgia's defense.

I'll be fine with M vs OSU Part Deux if that's what happens. I'd expect OSU to 'right the wrong' and probably beat Michigan by a TD or so. SEC types would be screaming bloody murder.

              • Eh, Michigan has the biggest average MOV in the country this year. They are solid. The most points they've given up all season actually was to Maryland thanks to a garbage time TD and 2 pointer in the final minute.

As far as a rematch with OSU, I'd rather avoid it. Seems like rematches in the title game always go to the loser of the first game.

                • If TCU defeats M, I’m definitely rooting for Georgia. Sorry, but can’t let the #1 rival win another championship!

If M defeats TCU, tough call. I would be scared of an Ohio State team that flipped the switch to knock off mighty Georgia. Reason to believe Ohio State would be on another 2014 path. Therefore, Georgia.

                  Go Georgia!

                    • No. I mean I get that TOSUC is THE rival but Kirby is an amoral Saban. It’s like rooting for General Zod because you think Superman is borderline facist. That may be right but Bucks are definitely the lesser of these two evils.
