Take the points. The UM- MSU game is still the UM-MSU game and the two teams are not further apart than they were in 2016, 2003, or 2004.

I’m telling you fuckers — even John L Smith’s teams were a bitch to play. MSU wildly overachieving against UM has been as predictable as UM losing to OSU.
Everything you say is true. I’ve lived it all the same. I wouldn’t lay 22 but if I WERE betting and was offered -8.5, I’d be tempted to take out a second mortgage.

Even if Michigan State punches above their weight for a couple quarters, they just don’t have enough. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if this game progresses much like the PSU game did. Dominate but it’s close for a while before the superior team pulls away.

I do see it playing out that way. Something like 33-21. No doubt about who was better, but close most of the way.

        • This time of the year is marked by hand-wringing over the possibility that Sparty will waltz into AA and defeat the Wolverines. History, Linesman will tell you. Well, he's right but only in four rather recent games where the "lesser" team came to town and beat M. In all four of those wins, Michigan's record was only one game better than MSU's. A certain recency bias exists.

          2001: Spartan Bob
2011: Brady Hoke's "pooping gold" year
          2020: COVID-19
2021: Spartan Ref (a missed safety)

MSU's record entering this game is 3-4, M is 7-0. The eyeball test says M is playing better than MSU with MSU facing some bad match-ups on both sides of the ball. I don't think Harbaugh is going to consider the risky rivalry nature of this game and do any turtling. From an offensive standpoint, I expect a run heavy - but not too heavy depending on how Sparty defends M's run game - with some off schedule pass plays called on 1st and 2nd downs between the 20s. The staff has to be interested in improving RZ TD rates when opponent defenses can bring their Ss up to stop the run. JJ has to be greenlighted to hit a slanting Bell or Edwards running out patterns for incremental gains inside the 20 that will gain more yardage and ultimately score TDs than pounding the rock trying to impose M's will.

          Michigan 41 - MSU 16 your final ....... 24 - 7 M at the half.

We've been through a couple of games where wx was a factor. After all this is SE Michigan. It looks like it will be a typical late October Saturday evening - partly cloudy and cool with light winds, probability of rain < 10%. From NWS:

But what's driving the late week and weekend forecast is a high Pressure system that is moving SW to NE. It has a lot of moisture associated with it that is to arrive in AA on Wednesday and then push NE into Ontario. All it takes is for that front to stall out and become stationary. This happens a lot in situations like this. From NWS:

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

Let's not forget 2017 - undefeated Michigan ranked # 7 lost to 2 TD underdog and unranked Sparty at home in the heavy rain at night.

              • Every M loss (other than maybe a beatdown or two from the Bucks and UGA) can be explained in two words.

                  MSU 17
                  M -22

I’m hoping to see more out of McCarthy with a bye week helping the young player get better. If not, there’s always the ascending run game. No Kenneth Walker to worry about. M wins comfortably.

The game against BERT is the one to worry about pre-Ohio State.

That was the worst. John O’Korn with all of those terrible plays vs MSU in a monsoon.

                  • Always an excuse, as if it only rained when Michigan took the field.

                      • I think that most Michigan fans recognize that O'Korn was the problem and not the rain.

That wasn't "rain." It was a deluge prolonged and heavy enough to float Noah's Arc. But, yeah, the real problem was O'Korn. The deluge, even though the field was designed with very good drainage, overwhelmed the sump/water table below it. Flooding occurred as torrents of water followed gravity from the stands. Parts of the field where the crown bottoms out (sidelines) flooded to a depth of over 6 inches.

                            • A simple concession that you lost because MSU was the better team that night would have been a better answer. Simply concede the loss and move on.
