PSU was once UNL's divisional "crossover" rival. UNL and PSU have a pretty good history from the 70's and 80's...

There was a poll about five years ago asking each fan base which team was their primary rival. UM was the # 1 "rival" for 6-7 schools. NW, WIS, MIN, MSU, OSU, ILL, IOWA, and one other. ILL in particular was overwhelmingly in favor of UM as a rival going back to Moeller and the way he was treated (Bo's beatdown of his successor). It takes more than some B10 bureaucrat to create a rivalry.
Really, how many B10 schools view ILL, NW, or PUR as a primary rival?
I say let a computer devise a random schedule of 10 conference games without "rivals" and then have a playoff among the top 4 teams.
Purdue and Indiana play something of a rivalry game every year, and I've heard NW and Illinois is something of a rivalry. Minnesota and Iowa play for a pig statue or some silliness like that. It seems like Wisconsin plays somebody for an axe, ... but I don't remember who the opponent is.
I've said before, to much ridicule in here, that I feel Michigan is everybody's "big" game. At least that's true for most of the conference. I think when USC and UCLA come in, they'll be shooting for Michigan more than anyone else as well."The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, .. I'd worn them for weeks, and they needed the air"
