The OL was so bad with Cade in that if he weren't a team captain, I'd be suspicious that those O-linemen are purposely tanking.

    • I was thinking the same thing, Hanni. The same guy allowed both sacks.

      • Not only was JJ more effective, but all of his interactions with the team that the camera caught were more enthusiastic than with Cade. JJ was getting high fives, helmet slaps, etc It's as if he has been the starting QB all along.

Anyhow, Cade's weird slump is the only real story coming out of this game.

        • I think they need to go with McCarthy. In doing so, there will be times when he's not 'on', and he may need someone to come in and relieve him. I hope Cade is the guy waiting in the wings. If he's not, then they'll have to hope Bowman, Warren or Orji can fill in. But JJ is your future QB, and they may as well get the future going now. If Michigan can get him to stay and play thru his senior year, he's going to have an amazing career.

I love how Corum is running. Yes we have to consider the opposition, but he's running hard, making good cuts, and just looks like he's having a good time. Edwards can play almost anywhere. Lots of positive signs in the first half tonight.

One more tomato can, and then it starts to get serious. Maryland will be no pushover, and then there's the night game at Kinnick.

            • Liney, Iowa looked scary (again). Ferentz post gamer looked like a hostage video. Kinnic at night will not be an issue this year.

Looks like we found a quarterback.

              • I didn't watch 2H, but the 3rdQ must have been awful. Unless they were deliberately trying to make Cade look bad. 0 points is really bad. That was the only quarter I was wrong about.

Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
                Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

The running game was terrible when Cade was is there too. Then Davis Warren came in and the running game magically started working again.

Cade bought the OLine custom Ping drivers last week. Also named team captain. I don’t get it.

Regardless… JJ is clearly the better QB. Most talented QB M has had since I’ve been watching. (2004 season)
Time to roll with the QB that has potential to be the best in college football one day.

I have edged a tad closer to that opinion, Jon. This is as bad as I've seen Iowa in a very long time. In the past, they've at least been stout on defense, while their offense is traditionally Lloyd Ball Ferentz Style. They still don't give up a lot of points, but they can't score points to save their lives. I'll still give them respect because they're a Big Ten team and they'll be playing at home in their favorite environment. But, if Michigan can't beat them this time, there's something seriously wrong.

And yep to McCarthy. Its time to give the kid the ball and let him run with it. Literally and figuratively. Just like Bo did with Rick Leach.

                    • There's really not much to be said about this game other than the stunning difference between the play of Cade Macnamara and JJ McCarthy. Davis Warren, who entered the game in the 3rd quarter, looked steadier and more confident than Cade. Something got in Cade's head and I think he has known all along that he was going to get beat out by JJ for the starting QB job. He sure looked like he understood that Satruday night.

The starting OL and DL both rolled Hawaii's fronts, something I was looking for - that repeat performance against a bad team. M also came out hungry and ready to play after an hour lightening delay. Fans, including this one, stood in the rain for about 45 minutes before the gates re-opened having closed just before 7p. Surprisingly, the rain did not deter attendnace to a noticeable degree. Fans were loud and supportive through Michigan's absolute thrashing of the Bows well into the third quarter. At that point, the 3 and 4 deep, were playing. A tweet from Balas said Harbaugh had played 85 players. Hawaii, didn't have but one first down and less than 100 total yards until long after the starters had left the game.

Other highlights: CJ Stokes is a baller. He runs hard like Haskins but seems to have a bit more agility. Donavan Edwards has great hands. He made a high point catch and then bulled his way into the endzone on a long ball for a TD.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

The 3rd quarter was pretty much unwatchable. With Cade in the game, the offense looked like our 2008 offense with Nick Sheridan. Something is simply not right with the kid. In addition to him playing poorly, the team around him plays very poorly when he is in the game for some reason.

The most seriously wrong thing is that Iowa’s offense might not be able to complete the wave to the children’s hospital.

                          • I think this is worth the mockery cannon but I'm, glad Liney is moving a "tad closer" to the opinion that this Iowa team is beatable in Kinnick. Embrace it like I do warm weather and long johns.

Linesman's prediction for the second game of the season:

                            I'll renew my prediction here:

                            Mich --- 21
                            'Bows -- 20

                            .. in OT

Thank goodness we have Jake Moody.

                            • My 73-10 prediction assumed that the offense would easily score with Cade in the game. I expected Hawaii to punch in garbage points against our reserves (but that wasn't fun to watch in the moment).

                              • Cade didn't get JJ's first team OL, receivers. Not a fair comparison as he was playing with some 3rd stringers too... Not that I think the difference is that close between the two, but don't judge Cade too harshly for the OL issues when he was in.
