  • I think the coaching staff are all safe, if they want to be here. I expect some to move on. Who? Not sure. But there's always turnover, and I'm sure someone will choose to move on. Room has to be made for Biff Poggi, because Moore really likes him, and he's available. So he will be on the staff in some capacity.

Some of you guys have been hard on Martindale, but I think that overall, he did about as well with this group as could be expected. He won seven games, including the defeat of the #2 in the country. He had Indiana, Washington and Illinois in winnable situations late in the game, but the offense couldn't deliver. The only games where he really got his butt kicked were Oregon and Texas. Nobody has beat Oregon this year, and only one team has beaten Texas. So, overall, not a bad showing for Martindale. Yeah, he probably blitzes too much and in the wrong situations, but I think we need to give him just a bit more credit. Would I still rather have Minter or McDonald? Absolutely, and so would a whole bunch of other teams, but that was never going to happen. I say if Martindale wants to come back, then extend him a handshake and a 'thank you' and welcome him back in '25.

Campbell is another situation. If another OC becomes available and is willing to come here, I think you bring them in, but at the same time, I'd hate to see Campbell dismissed completely. If he'd be willing to retreat back into the QB coach, so he could focus on Underwood, I'd be fine with that. And Underwood is said to really like Campbell. So you want that connection to stay together if at all possible.

And it should go without saying that Moore has earned his 2nd year. Any talk of replacing him should end.

    • It's a fundamental truth: If Michigan beats both MSU and OSU it's been a good season no matter what else happened.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

And USC! Really weird to sit here at 7-5 and feel good about it. LOL. Although, we basically played the entire season without a QB. It would be like a hockey team saying, fuck it, we're playing with 6 skaters and no goalie.

                • Kirk Campbell has been let go. I love the decisiveness from Moore. We actually get to participate in the portal and coaching carousel this year!

Michigan is just stacking up great things right now!

                    • You have to know Moore has a short list of candidates to take Campbell's place. Who's on it? I wonder if Campbell was heavily involved with Underwood's recruitment and if there's any truth to the rumor that he was very close to him. I also wonder if the Underwood camp was involved and if they were fine with the firing of Campbell and, if they were involved, in the making of Moore's short list of OC's?

There are at least two QBs interested in playing for M, importantly with just one year of eligibility*, who will enter the portal when it opens next Monday the 9th. You'd think they'd want to know who's going to scheme the offense and call plays. They may already know.

                      * Portal QBs that have 2 or more years of eligibility and NFL cred and aspirations are not going to want to learn the offense, play for M for a year until Underwood is ready, and then, for more seasoning or a better draft position, have to do it all over again with another team when Bryce becomes M's starter.

                      • I think Underwood is going to be the starter before the 25 season ends, if not from the git-go.

                        • If we had a decent veteran QB to act as bridge to Underwood, that would be great. But we don't. Might as well go with Bryce from the start next season.

                          • Totally missed the news that Campbell was let go the other day. Oblivious to some stuff this week. It makes sense when considering the offense and season as a whole. I thought there was a chance he would stay with other changes to the staff. Ending the season on a high note and his alleged involvement with recruiting. However, it’s obvious that M can significantly improve the OC and its offense going forward. Makes me excited about the future with Underwood. Pair him with a quality OC.

I heard Joe Moorhead’s name mentioned somewhere and like that idea. Always been impressed with him when it comes to scheming stuff up.

                            • Moore sounds like he's going to be looking for a OC that has more experience with read option type offenses, rather than the straight ahead stuff M has been running since Harbaugh arrived. Although, the scouting on Underwood says he can drop back, so I guess we'll find out.

Campbell was good when he just had quarterbacks to coach. He turned out to be not so good at play calling.

I wonder if John Harbaugh has any offensive assistants that are ready to move up to an OC position, seeing that they've been working with LaMarr Jackson for a while.

                              • Michigan will now finish the season at 7-6.

They have been matched up against Alabama in the "ReliaQuest Bowl" in Tampa on Dec 31. Formerly the "Outback Bowl".

                                Prediction

                                Alabama 38
                                Michigan 6

Once again, Michigan is stuck into an unfair bowl game matchup against a team they have no business playing. They are unranked, and Alabama is #11. Huge disadvantage for Michigan.

At least it gives bucknut fans something to smile about.
